Effect of Group Counseling on the Mental Health of Key Middle School Students.

Objective To study the effect of group counseling on the mental health of middle school students.Methods In a hierarchical cluster sampling,a key middle school was randomly selected in each areas of city and countryside respectively,four classes were randomly selected from each grade one in the two schools,a total of eight classes were randomly divided into intervention group and control group with four class each（four classes of the urban and four classes of the rural）.The intervention group received a period of three years of group counseling,the control group was as a blank control.The middle school mental health questionnaire was used.Results The scores of the study group on total coarse separation score,and forced,paranoia,depression,anxiety,learning stress,maladaptation,emotional balance,unbalanced mind were lower than those of the control group（t=-12.33,-19.50,-4.48,-15.57,-15.31,-35.40,-3.83,-17.43,-14.61;P〈0.01）.Conclusion An integrated intervention has a significant effect on improving the quality of life of rural-urban key middle school students.
