Nasosinusitis after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

OBJECTIVE To explore the incidence and influencing factors of nasosinusitis among nasopharyngeal carcinoma（NPC）patients before and after radiotherapy.METHODS Clinical data of 256 NPC patients who were treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College from 2000 to 2005 were retrospectively analyzed.CT images before and after radiotherapy were compared.The incidence and in？uencing factors of paranasal sinusitis were analyzed.RESULTS Of the 256 NPC patients,43.8%（112/256） suffered from paranasal sinusitis before radiotherapy.Among the 144 NPC patients without paranasal sinusitis before radiotherapy,86.8%（125/144）developed paranasal sinusitis after radiotherapy.The occurrence rates of paranasal sinusitis（ORPS）at 3 months,6 months,12 months,and more than 1 year after radiotherapy were 11.8%（17/144）,27.1%（39/144）,42.4%（61/144）and 5.6%（8/144）respectively.CONCLUSION The incidence of paranasal sinusitis in NPC patients after radiotherapy was high,and reached a peak in one year.The paranasal sinusitis is related to the tumor invasion of nasal cavity,the dose of radiotherapy and T stage.
