Positron emission tomography in dementia: A clinical review

Abstract:
Positron emission tomography (PET) is a technique which enables direct measurement of cerebral metabolism to be made. The procedure has exciting possibilities for the investigation of brain metabolism but there are limitations and problem which need to be overcome. A review is presented of the current state of knowledge of PET in relation to dementia, the techniques used, the practicalities of performing a scan and the limitations involved.
