Abstract: | Mohs micrographic surgery has evolved over the last 60 years from fixed-tissue chemosurgery with secondary intention healing to fresh-tissue surgical excision utilizing advanced histotechnology and reconstructive techniques. This evolution has occurred while preserving the fundamental characteristics of Mohs surgery: microscopically controlled tumor excision by one surgeon acting as pathologists to ensure complete tumor extirpation while maximally conserving tissue. Refinements, modifications, and clinical pearls will be outlined that uphold these tenets and enhance the quality of patient care. |
