CCl4-induced damage to endoplasmatic reticulum membranes

Cytochrome P-450 can be used to indicate damage of the membranes of endoplasmatic reticulum by CCl₄. Free radicals are formed during the metabolism of CCl₄, which stimulate peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and directly inactivate cytochrome P-450. The first indication of cytochrome P-450 inactivation is a decrease in the reduction rate in the NADPH-specific electron transfer chain. In microsomes obtained from the liver of poisoned animals NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase is not stimulated by DMA.
