Correlative study on diabetes and progressive ischemic stroke

Objective To study the correlation of diabetes mellitus and progressive ischemic stroke.Methods Total 130 ischemic stroke patients in our hospital from May 2006 to May 2009 were admitted to the study,64 diabetes patients were as diabetes group,66 cases of non-diabetic patients were as non-diabetic group,the difference in development in ischemic stroke in two groups was compared.Results In diabetic group,41 cases of patients were diagnosed as progressive stroke,accounting for 64.1%.In non-diabetic group,15 cases were diagnosed as progressive stroke,accounting for 22.7%.The difference was statistically significant between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Ischemic stroke patients with diabetes more likely develop to progressive ischemic stroke.Controlling high blood sugar can reduce the incidence of progressive stroke,and reduce the morbidity.
