Treatment of post-stroke constipation with acupuncture at extra points combined with point selection based on syndrome differentiation

Objiective To observe the clinical effect of the treatment of post-stroke constipation with acupuncture at odd points,combined with point selection based on syndrome differentiation.Methods 74 patients with post-strike constipation were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 37 cases in each group.The observation group was given acupuncture treatment,once a day for 10 days.The control group was treated with Lactulose Oral Liquid,25 mL per day,taken orally at breakfast for 10 days.The first defecation time (from the end of the first treatment to the first defecation),the constipation scores (after treatment and at follow-up) and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 89.19%,which was better than 75.68% of the control group (P<0.05).The first defecation time of the observation group was (28.56±14.13) h,and that of the control group was (45.07±23.28) h.The observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.05).After treatment and at follow-up,the constipation scores in the observation group were (3.68±2.35) and (5.13±1.65),which were significantly better than those in the control group (5.08±1.62) and (7.22±1.97) (all P<0.05).There were no obvious adverse reactions in both groups.Conclusion Acupuncture at extra-points,combined with point selection based on syndrome differentiation,can better improve the clinical symptoms of patients with post-stroke constipation.Compared with Lactulose Oral Liquid,it has the advantages of quick effect,superior curative effect,and long duration of effect.
