Osmotic fragility of human blood platelets

The osmotic fragility of 50 samples of platelets from normal healthy donorshas been studied. It has been found that fragility of platelets starts at a concentration of about 0.44 per cent NaCl and is complete at a concentration of0.34 per cent. The serotonine released from the platelets increased with thegradual disintegration as the saline concentration fell.
