Abstract: | Interviews were conducted with 181 people 65 years of age or older to study depressive symptoms and life stresses. The sample was approximately equally divided between men and women, blacks and whites, and higher and lower socioeconomic classes. Few life events were significantly related to level of depression either before or after controlling for physical disability and living with a spouse. Findings of Linn et al. (1980) were therefore generally confirmed with a broader sample. |
