| Abstract: | The parapharyngeal space and the adjacent structure were observed and quantitatively studied on 100 normal CT scans of the nasopharynx. The results were as follows: (1) There were no significant differences in the width. (2)There were no remarkable differences in the thickness of the medial pterygoid muscles, lateral pterygoid muscles, pre -vertebral muscles, tensor palatini muscles and levator palatini muscles of both sides. (3)Fat was found in the interpterygoid fascia on 64 scans and in the prevertebral space on 75 scans. A detailed discussion is made on the results in combination with the diagnosis of early tumour involvement in the parapharyngeal space. |
