The diagnostic value of PET/CT and the multi-mode of thin-slice CT on chest for SSPNs

Objective:To explore the diagnostic value of the multi-mode of positron emission tomography-computed tomography(PET/CT)on sub solid pulmonary nodules(SSPNs).Methods:PET/CT scan and thin-slice CT scan on chest were performed on 22 patients with SSPNs who were confirmed by pathology or follow-up.According to the properties of 3 kinds of various imaging methods,which included PET/CT fusion image,thin-slice CT of chest and the combination of PET/CT fusion image and thin-slice CT on chest,on SSPNs to implement diagnosis.And then,the diagnostic efficiencies of 3 kinds of imaging were further compared.Results:In 22 sub solid nodules,7 cases were highly differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 5 cases were moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 5 cases were bronchioloalveolar carcinoma,and 3 cases were inflammatory nodules and 2 cases were tuberculosis.And 7 cases were hypermetabolism(4 cases were moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 1 case was highly differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 1 case was inflammatory nodule and 1 case was tuberculosis),and 15 cases were hypometabolism(6 cases were highly differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 5 cases were bronchioloalveolar carcinoma,and 1 case was moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma,and 2 cases were inflammatory nodule and 1 case was tuberculosis).The maximum standardized uptake value(SUVmax)of differentiated lung cancer was 3.66±1.89(n=5)in malignant nodules that was significantly higher than1.58±0.96(n=12)of highly differentiated lung cancer(t=3.06,P<0.01).The sensitivity,specificity,accuracy,positive predictive value and negative predictive value(88.2%,80%,86.4%,93.8%and 66.7%)of the combination of PET/CT fusion image and multi-mode of thin-slice CT on chest in diagnosing malignant SSPNs were significantly higher than those of single PET/CT fusion image(29.4%,60%,36.4%,71.4%and 20%)and single thin-slice CT on chest(76.5%,80%,77.3%,92.9%,50%),respectively.Conclusion:The combined diagnosis of PET/CT fusion image and multi-mode of thin-slice CT on chest can improve the diagnostic accuracy for SSPNs by combining with the morphological and metabolic characteristics of SSPNs.
