Analysis of influencing factors of malnutrition in elderly patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors and the intervention effects of enteral and parenteral nutrition support

Objective To analyze the influencing factors of malnutrition in elderly patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors, and to explore the effects of enteral and parenteral nutrition supports.Methods A total of 249 patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors admitted to our hospital between January 2017 and January 2019 were selected. The Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) scale was used to assess the nutritional status of patients, and the incidence of malnutrition was counted. Multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of malnutrition. Enteral and parenteral nutrition supports were given to malnourished patients, and the changes of nutrition indicators, immune function indicators, and quality of life before and after intervention were compared.Results Among the 249 patients, 167 cases had malnutrition, and the incidence rate was 67.07%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that age (OR=0.681, 95% CI=1.418~3.613), BMI (OR=6.451, 95% CI=4.253~8.212), previous malnutrition (OR=1.631, 95% CI=3.219~6.032) were independent influencing factors of malnutrition in elderly patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors (P<0.05). After enteral and parenteral nutrition intervention, the nutritional indicators, immune function indicators and quality of life of patients were significantly improved (P<0.05).Conclusion There are many factors resulting in malnutrition in elderly patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors. Enteral and parenteral nutrition support interventions can effectively improve their nutritional indicators, immune function, and improve the quality of life.
