Abstract: | Background. Human infections with the liver fluke Opisthorchis felineus belong to the rarely diagnosed parasitoses in central Europe. Case report. We report on a 5-year-old girl suffering from dystrophia, right upper abdominal pain and anorexia. Two months ago the patient had arrived Germany coming from western Siberia, one of the main endemic regions of this fluke. Opisthorchis eggs were found in the stool. Following the therapy with praziquantel (25 mg/kg bodyweight three times daily for 2 days) the patient recovered and no eggs were found in the faeces. Conclusion. The opisthorchiosis should be considered as differential diagnosis in dystrophic children coming from endemic regions. |
