Abstract: | A 62 year old man developed an abdominal mass, which proved to be a hepatic leiomyosarcoma. During the subsequent two years he lost about 40 pounds. At autopsy the liver weighed 11,200 grams and was almost entirely replaced by tumor nodules. Small metastatic nodules were found in the lungs, pancreas, thyroid, adrenals, and kidneys. This appears to be the eighth case of primary smooth muscle tumor of the liver to have been reported. Primary smooth muscle tumors of the liver progress relatively slowly, even if they are histologically malignant. |
