The relationship between the changes of serum albumin levels and the prognosis in patients with acute coronary syndromes

Objective： To investigate the relationship between the changes of serum albumin（ALB） levels and the prognosis of patients with acute coronary syndromes（ACS） of different clinical types.Methods： A total of 91 patients with ACS admitted from September 2009 to July 2010 were selected,including 28 patients with unstable angina pectoris（UAP）,27 patients with non ST elevated myocardial infarction（NSTEMI） and 36 patients with ST elevated myocardial infarction（STEMI）.The serum level of ALB,CRP and BNP were detected during different times,and incidences of cardiovascular events（angina pectoris,myocardial infarction/recurrent myocardial infarction,heart failure,death,etc.） were recorded.They were divided into two groups based on ALB level： normal control（35-55g/L）and low ALB group（〈35g/L）.The incidence of cardiovascular events and the relationship between the incidence and CRP,BNP levels were recorded and compared.Results： The levels of CRP and BNP were higher after admission and ALB level was lower in STEMI group,especially on the 4th and 5th day（P〈0.05）.The incidence and mortality of heart failure,CRP and BNP level were significantly higher in low ALB group（P〈0.05）.ALB was negative correlated with CRP,BNP,incidence of heart failure and mortality（R=-0.362,-0.147,-0.387,-0.473,respectively）.Conclusions： Serum ALB,CRP and BNP levels are equally valuable in evaluating the incidence of cardiovascular events,and severity of illness,especially for heart failure.It is simple,economic and of easy generalization.
