Discussion on the Health-preserving Theory of TCM Guidance Methods of Twenty-Four Solar Terms in Bao Sheng Xin Jian

The earliest documentary records about the guidance methods of the twenty-four solar terms can be found in the Bao Sheng Xin Jian written by Jushi Tiefeng in Ming Dynasty. The book describes the guidance methods and the main diseases of each solar term, which are widely circulated by later generations. Studying the health-preserving theory of TCM guidance methods of twenty-four solar terms is of great significance to prevention and treatment of disease, health preserving and inheritance of the excellent traditional Chinese culture. TCM guidance methods of twenty-four solar terms are based on the theory of “unity of man and nature”,and combine the five-elements motions and six climatic changes and meridian theory, which improves the theoretical system of the guidance methods. This article took the guidance methods of the four solar terms of “the Beginning of Spring, the Beginning of Summer, the Beginning of Autumn, and the Beginning of Winter” as examples to illustrate and discuss the TCM guidance methods of twenty-four solar terms.
