Awards of medical achievements in national science and technology awards from 2010 to 2019

Objective To keep abreast of the progress in development of medical sciences and technologies, find out the guidance for evaluation of national medical achievements, improve the innovative systems for medical sciences and technologies, and promote the development of medical sciences and technologies by analyzing the awards of medical achievements in national science and technology awards from 2010 to 2019 in our country. Methods The awards of medical achievements in national science and technology awards from 2010 to 2019 in our country were analyzed in aspects of their number, types, fields, topics and awardees by scientometrics. Results The number of awards in different medical fields from 2010 to 2019 showed a trend to decrease, indicating that the guidance for evaluation of national medical achievements laid its stress on quality more than on quantity. The related fields covered 6 first class subjects, which took the clinical medicine as the dominant subjects with research and development of traditional Chinese medicine, tackling of key technical problems in tumors and major emergency infectious diseases, innovative research and development of new drugs, precision medicine or individual treatment covered in their topics. Hospitals were the important institution for promoting the research, development and innovation of medical sciences and technologies in our country. The motivating and training mechanisms for young and middle-aged leading professionals should be further improved. Conclusion It is suggested to promote the development of medical sciences and technologies in our country by optimizing the age structure of medical leading professionals, bringing the role of enterprises into play in innovation of medical sciences and technologies, strengthening the distribution of basic medical sciences and improving the regional allocation of medical resources.
