Abstract: | Ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenomas are rare lesions that typically necessitate either median sternotomy or thoracotomy. More recently, video-assisted thoracoscopy has been used to excise mediastinal parathyroid adenomas. Herein we describe a novel technique in which we used a minimally invasive transcervical endoscopic-assisted approach to excise an anterior mediastinal parathyroid adenoma in a young man with a history of spontaneous pneumothorax. Intraoperative parathormone monitoring confirmed the excision of all hypersecreting parathyroid tissue, thereby obviating the need for a conventional neck exploration. |
