Mycophenolate mofetil combined with low dose CsA for treatment of chronic reject ion in primary cada-veric renal recipients

Objectives To investigate the clinical efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) combined with low dose CsA and prednisone (Pred) for treatment of chronic rejection in primary cadaveric renal recipients. Method A total of 8 renal recipients who were clinically diagnosed as having chronic rejection were given MMF 1.5 to 2.0 ?g/d, CsA 2 to 3?mg/kg per day and Pred 10?mg/d triimmunosuppressive agents . Results Blood creatinine was reduced to normal level and urine protein disappeared in 5 cases, blood creatinine and urine protein decreased obviously in 2 cases, and kidney function deteriorated in one case after this strategy for 4 to 9 weeks, respectively. No denova rejection episode or liver function damage occurred among these patients during treatment. Reduction of white blood cells in peripheral blood occurred in one case, but recovered after therapy.Conclusions MMF combined with low dose of CsA could bring out a considerable efficacy in reversing chronic rejection of renal recipients. This immunosuppresive stragety may be a useful routine in the treatment of chronic rejection.
