Abstract: | The management of orthopaedic trauma in Australia varies from the urban model common to most developed countries to a model determined by the vast distances of the island continent. The effectiveness of this system is largely dependent on the retrieval system and treatment protocols of severe injuries often revolve around prolonged contamination of traumatic wounds. The place of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in providing the "Mantle of Safety" for remote and rural Australia is highlighted. |
