| Abstract: | Objective To explore the changes of the white matter in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).Methods Diffusion-tensor imaging(DTI) was performed on 9 PTSD patients and 9 matched normal volunteers.Fractional anisotropy(FA) values of the white matter in PTSD patients were compared with those in volunteers by tract-based spatial statistics(TBSS).Results Compared with control participants,FA values were significantly decreased in the white matter of PTSD patients that include the bilateral uncinate fasciculus,the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus,and the right frontal forceps,the anterior thalamic radiation,and the corticospinal tract(P<0.01).Conclusion Significant decrease of FA values in the white matter of brain regions related to memory and emotion regulation in PTSD patients suggests degeneration or fewer fibers of these brain regions. |
