Psychologic disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes

Objective To investigate the psychologic disorders and its risk factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods Ninety two T2DM patients(male 69,female 23) were respectively tested with SDS(the self-rating depression scale),SAS(the self-rating anxiety scale),SES(the self-esteem scale) and EPQ(Eysenck Personality Questionaire)to evaluate the psychologic status of the patients.The relationship of the abnormal psychologic status with the blood glucose control,metabolic change,treatment compliance and related factors were analyzed.Results 40.2% patients had depression,and 29.3% had anxiety,the scores of the patients were remarkably higher than those of the controls.The total scores of E,N,P of EPQ were higher and the score of SES was lower in the patients with T2DM than those in the healthy subjects.Diabetes disease state of the patients with psychologic disorders was more severe than that of the patients without abnormal psychology.Worry about the change of life style and bad final was related with the abnormal psychology of the T2DM patients.Conclusion Depression,anxiety,alterant personality and depressed esteem are common psychologic symptoms in T2DM patients.Diabetes disease state of the T2DM patients with depression and anxiety is worse than that of the patients without the symptoms.Worry about the change of life style and bad final is the risk factor of the T2DM patients with psychologic disorders.
