Analysis of factors influencing early prognosis of total correction of tetralogy of Fallot

Objective To analyze the risk factors influencing short-term adverse envents in infants after radical correction of tetralogy of Fallot（TOF） with cardiopulmonary bypass （CPB）. Methods We retrospectively analyzed a group of 117 consecutive children with tetralogy of fallot（ aged 1 - 36 months） who underwent radical operation of tetralogy of Fallot between August 2003 and February 2011. The following factors were recorded and statistically analyzed ： operative age, operative weight, haematocrit before operation, McGoon index, End diastolic volume index（ EDVI）, aortic cross-clamping time,cardiopulmonary bypass time, size of ventriculax septal defect, AO/MPO, patching astride annulus, ventilation time, amount of postoperative thoracic drain- age and prolonged stay in intensive care unit（ICU）. The patients were divided into two groups according to the prognosis. Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to identify the risk factors for short - term prognosis. Results Data from Conditional Logistic stepwise regression analyses revealed that factors as： McGoon index, aortic cross-clamping time, stay time in intensive care unit. With P values as 0. 009,0. 011 and 0. 019 respectively, OR values as 9. 093,0. 953 and 0. 610 respectively. Conclusion McGoon index, aortic cross-clamping time and stay time in intensive care unit are associated with the short-term adverse outcome of infants after total correction of tetralogy of Fallot, of which McGoon index is the most important risk factor.
