Abstract: | During labour the infantile cervical spine undergoes complex movements combined with massive pressure peaks. The trauma risk of the cervical spine results from its anatomical and biomechanical structure, the wide range of movement and the relatively weak muscles connecting skull and trunk. Thus every modus of labour contains its specific risk.Their knowledge facilitates the application of specific obstetric procedures and a more precise risk assessment regarding the eventual neurological problems later on. Trauma of the neurological structures of the brain stem and medulla is quite often combined with functional disorders in the occipito-cervical junction. A particular importance is related to the development of a KISS syndrome. Extensive casuistic material suggests long-term consequences for the sensorimotor integration. The different diagnostical and therapeutical proceeding requires an interdisciplinary work. |
