Abstract: | Purpose:To describe the clinical features and outcome of febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES), a catastrophic epileptic encephalopathy, in a cohort of South Indian children.Significance:This study reports one of the largest single center cohorts from India, with an adverse long-term developmental and seizure outcome. The duration and severity of seizures in the acute period correlated directly with the short-term and long-term clinical outcomes. There is an urgent need for developing new effective therapeutic strategies to treat this acute catastrophic epileptic syndrome. |
