Analysis of prognostic factors in children with convulsive status epilepticus in pediatric intensive care unit

Objective To explore the factors affecting the prognosis of children with convulsive status epilepticus in pediatric intensive care unit(PICU).Methods The clinical data of 96 children with convulsive status epilepticus,who were hospitalized in PICU of Kaifeng Central Hospital from June 2016 to June 2020,were collected.The prognosis of the children was evaluated by END-IT.These children were divided into poor prognosis and good prognosis groups.Gender,age,etiology,convulsion history,generalized seizure,retardation of growth and development,timely antipsychotic treatment and the length of hospital stay in PICU were collected and recorded.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were applied to explore the correlation between the above factors and short-term prognosis of children with status epilepticus in PICU.Results There were statistical differences in age,etiology,general onset,retardation of growth and development,and the length of hospital stay in PICU between two groups(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age(OR=1.253,95%CI:1.076~3.425),retardation of growth and development(OR=2.382,95%CI:1.652~8.785),the length of hospital stay in PICU(OR=5.576;95%CI:1.253~13.546)were risk factors for poor prognosis in children with convulsive status epilepticus.There was no statistically significant differences in etiology and generalized seizures(P>0.05).Conclusion Age,etiology,generalized seizures,retardation of growth and development,the length of hospital stay in PICU are associated with worse prognosis of children with convulsive status epilepticus.Among them,age,retardation of growth and development and length of hospital stay in PICU are risk factors for poor prognosis in children with convulsive status epilepticus.
