A study of masticatory function of the telescope and bar attachment overdentures

Objective This study observed the masticatory function of the patients using telescope and bar attachment overdentures. Methods Ten subjects were selected and treated with bar attachment or telescope overdenture. They were examined by sirognathograph, electromyography, and measured the retention and the masticatory performance. Results After four weeks of wearing, compared to the results from the patients using complete denture, we found that: The patients using overdentures adapted easier and had better masticatory function than those using complete dentures. Conclusion The bar attachment and the telescopic overdentures are ideal types of prostheses.
