Abstract: | New beta lactams and the quinolone class of antibiotics represent major improvements in the therapy of moderate to severe infections. These newer antibiotics have an extended spectrum of antimicrobial activity, excellent pharmacokinetic properties and low toxicity. The beta lactams include carbapenems, represented by imipenem-cilastatin, and monobactams, represented by aztreonam. Norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin are potent quinolones. |
