Abstract: | 128 NPC patients, both previously untreated and local recurrant ordistant metastat ic cases following radiotherapy, received two courses of Carboplatin alone or a combination regimen of CBF (Carboplatin, BLM and 5FU). Single-agent Carboplatin produced a 41.38% partial response rate in 29 patients, no complete response(CR) was ach hieved. CBF Combination group resulted a 66.67% resp onse rate in 99 patients including 12.12% CR rate.67 previously untreated patients received radioth-erapy following inducton chemotherapy rapy. Matched control cases who received radiotherapy alone served as control, when radi radiotherapy was completed, cervical node complete remission rate of induction chemotherapy group and control group were 82.09%and 64.18% respectively. The former as significant better than later (P<0.05). Compared the cervical node CR rade of patients with N2 , N3stage, the induction chemotherapy group was better than control group (P<0.05, P<0.001)In conclusion, Carboplatin is one of the effective agents to NPC,its objective antitumor activity was comparable to DDP with less toxicity, and induction chemotherapy can improve local control of patients with advanced cervical Imyph node lesion (N2.N3) without increasing acute radiation reactions. However, the role of induction chemotherapy on lony term survival remains to be answered. |
