Abstract: | While iodine deficiency remains a relatively rare cause of thyroid dysfunction in the United States, little is known about iodine status and deficiency in children requiring parenteral nutrition (PN). This population may be at an elevated risk of thyroid dysregulation and neurodevelopmental sequelae due to low concentrations in typical PN formulations. Furthermore, with the widespread practice of switching from iodine‐based antiseptics to chlorhexadine, previous inadvertent sources of iodine are being eliminated as well. |
