Research within the anatomical sciences often relies on human cadaveric tissues. Without the good will of these donors who allow us to use their bodies to push forward our anatomical knowledge, most human anatomical research would come to a standstill. However, many research papers omit an acknowledgement to the donor cadavers or, as no current standardized versions exist, use language that is extremely varied. To remedy this problem, 20 editors‐in‐chiefs from 17 anatomical journals joined together to put together official recommendations that can be used by authors when acknowledging the donor cadavers used in their studies. The goal of these recommendations is to standardize the writing approach by which donors are acknowledged in anatomical studies that use human cadaveric tissues. Such sections in anatomical papers will not only rightfully thank those who made the donation but might also encourage, motivate, and inspire future individuals to make such gifts for the betterment of the anatomical sciences and patient care.  相似文献

The Japanese Dermatological Association prepared guidelines focused on the treatment of skin ulcers associated with connective tissue disease/vasculitis practical in clinical settings of dermatological care. Skin ulcers associated with connective tissue diseases or vasculitis occur on the background of a wide variety of diseases including, typically, systemic sclerosis but also systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), various vasculitides and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). Therefore, in preparing the present guidelines, we considered diagnostic/therapeutic approaches appropriate for each of these disorders to be necessary and developed algorithms and clinical questions for systemic sclerosis, SLE, dermatomyositis, RA, vasculitis and APS.  相似文献

Whether germline (g) breast cancer susceptibility gene (BRCA) mutations are located within or outside the ovarian cancer cluster region (OCCR) (1380‐4062 bp for gBRCA1, and between 3249‐5681 bp and 6645‐7471 bp for gBRCA2) may influence risk variations for ovarian cancers. This ad hoc analysis of the CHARLOTTE epidemiological study in Japan assessed the distribution of gBRCA1/2 mutations in patients with newly diagnosed ovarian cancer, and investigated an association between gBRCA1/2 mutation locations and ovarian cancer risk. Differences in patient background and clinical characteristics in subgroups stratified by gBRCA1/2 mutation locations were also evaluated. We analyzed the data of 93 patients (14.7%) from the CHARLOTTE study who were positive for gBRCA1/2 mutations. After excluding 16 cases with L63X founder mutation, 28 (65.1%) of gBRCA1 mutations were within the OCCR. Of 30 gBRCA2 mutations, 15 (50.0%) were within the OCCR. Of 27 patients (one patient excluded for unknown family history) with gBRCA1 mutations located in the OCCR, 11 (40.7%) had a family history of ovarian cancer; the proportion of patients with a family history of ovarian cancer and gBRCA1 mutations outside the OCCR was lower (13.3%). Sixty percent of patients with gBRCA1 mutations outside the OCCR had a family history of breast cancer; the proportion of patients with a family history of breast cancer and gBRCA1 mutations within the OCCR was relatively lower (33.3%). Understanding the mutation locations may contribute to more accurate risk assessments of susceptible individuals and early detection of ovarian cancer among gBRCA mutation carriers.  相似文献

Objective

To determine the influence of the Kuchi-kara Taberu (KT) index on rehabilitation outcomes during hospitalized convalescent rehabilitation.

Design

A historical controlled study.

Setting and Participants

A rehabilitation hospital.

Participants

Patients who were admitted to a convalescent rehabilitation ward from June 2014 to May 2017.

Measures

Patients’ background characteristics included age, sex, nutritional status, activities of daily living (ADL) assessed using the Functional Impedance Measure (FIM), dysphagia assessed using the Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), and reasons for rehabilitation. The following values before (control group) and after initiation of the KT index intervention period (intervention group) were compared: gain of FIM, length of stay, accumulated rehabilitation time, discharge destination, gain of FOIS, gain of body weight (BW), and nutritional intake (energy and protein).

Results

Mean age was 76.4 ± 12.3 years (n = 233). There were no significant differences in the baseline characteristics of the patients at admission between the control and intervention groups, except for reason of rehabilitation. The intervention group demonstrated statistically higher values for the total (P = .004) and motor FIM gain (P = .003), total (P = .018) and motor FIM efficiency (P = .016), and FOIS gain (P < .001), compared with values in the control group. The proportion of patients returning home was statistically more frequent in the intervention group compared with that in the control group (73.4% vs 85.5%, odds ratio 2.135, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.108-4.113, P = .022). Multivariate analyses indicated that intervention using the KT index was a significant independent factor for increased FIM gain (β coefficient = 0.163, 95% CI 1.379-8.329, P = .006) and returning home (adjusted odds ratio 2.570, 95% CI 1.154-5.724, P = .021).

Conclusions/Implications

A rehabilitation program using the KT index may lead to improvement of inpatient outcomes in post-acute care. Further prospective research is warranted to confirm the efficacy of this program.  相似文献

Synergistic effects among multiple gene mutations are involved in cancer development and progression. However, developing genetically modified mouse models to analyze various combinations of mutations is extremely labor-intensive and time-consuming. To address these problems, we developed a novel method for in vivo multiplexed genome editing of the murine uterus to model human endometrial carcinoma (EMC). To do this, we injected a CRISPR-Cas9 ribonucleoprotein complex into the uterine cavity of adult female mice, followed by electroporation. Evaluation of reporter mice demonstrated that genome editing occurred specifically in uterine epithelial cells, which are the origin of EMCs. Simultaneous targeting of Pten/Trp53/Lkb1, or targeting of Pten/Lkb1 along with the Ctnnb1ΔEx3 mutation, resulted in efficient generation of invasive tumors in wild-type females within 3 months. This novel method will enable rapid and easy validation of many combinations of gene mutations that lead to endometrial carcinogenesis.  相似文献

To study the stress involved at the metal-enamel junction of an adhesive bridge during the eccentric movement of the mandible, the author calculated the values of principal stress and maximum shearing stress, and determined the stress distribution at the adhesive surface which exists between retainer and enamel, for which an unprepared canine and a centaral incisor, using a three-dimensional photoelastic experiment. Based on the assumed eccentric movement of the mandible, three models with loading at different parts of the adhesive bridge were used for the experiment: Model 1 with loading only on the central incisor, Model 2 with loading on the pontic of the lateral incisor and Model 3 with loading only on the canine. The results were as follows. (1) Models 1 and 3 showed stress concentration directly under the loading point, where the compressive stress was 610 kgf/cm2 in Model 1 and 610 kgf/cm2 in Model 3. (2) Model 1 showed distribution of stress of 30-80 kgf/cm2 at the metal-enamel junction of the canine, while in Model 3 the stress of 80-150 kgf/cm2 was distributed at the metal-enamel junction of the central incisor. Loading only on the canine produced higher levels and broader distribution of stress than loading only on the central incisor. (3) Model 2 showed distribution of stress of about 60 kgf/cm2 at the metal-enamel junction of the central incisor and canine. Extremely intense stress, 250 kgf/cm2, was noted in the canine slice contiguous to the pontic. Stress as high as 70 kgf/cm2 was also observed in the central incisor slice contiguous to the pontic. (4) The maximum shearing stress values were 305 kgf/cm2 in Model 1 and 325 kgf/cm2 in Model 3 at the sites directly under the loading point, showing similarly high levels. (5) A comparative investigation of the maximum shearing stress appearing at the metal-enamel junction among the models showed that the distributed maximum shearing stress in Model 3 was about twice that in Model 1. (6) Model 2 had the maximum shearing stress, which was located toward the pontic in the canine, with an intensity closed to the shearing strength of currently available adhesive resin cement, suggesting a high risk of desquamation at this site.  相似文献

A clinical trial was performed to examine the effect of ACDEMIN, a combination of lysozyme chloride and vitamins (manufactured by Grelan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.,; supplied by Takeda Chemical Industries, Ltd.). The subjects were 65 patients with slight to moderate symptoms associated with locally developed diseases including gingivitis, periodontitis, pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth and gingival abscess. Improvement of the condition was evaluated according to symptom on the basis of local findings examined prior to and 7 days after administration. Adverse effects were also evaluated in terms of discomfort. General improvement was determined on the basis of improvement in symptoms and general safety on the basis of a comprehensive assessment of the adverse effects. The usefulness of the drug was determined on the basis of general improvement and general safety as assessed above. The results were as follows: 1) Of the 65 patients who entered the trial, 62 completed the course of administration. 2) The rates of improvement ("slightly improved" or better) according to symptom were 65.6% for gingival inflammation, 40.0% for bleeding, 50.0% for pus discharge, 41.8% for swelling, 61.9% for local pain, 26.7% for mouth odor, 21.7% for color tone and 62.3% for discomfort. 3) The rates of usefulness ("slightly useful" or better) according to disease were 66.7% for gingivitis, 92.0% for periodontitis, 81.8% for pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth and 100.0% for gingival abscess. 4) The usefulness of the drug was graded "very useful" in 4 patients, "fairly useful" in 18, "slightly useful" in 31 and "not useful" in none, with an overall rate of usefulness of 85.5% ("faily useful" or better). 5) No patients presented symptoms indicating an adverse effect.  相似文献

Objectives To assess the reproducibility of the mandibular cortical index (MCI) on panoramic radiographs among British and Japanese observers, and to investigate the difference between the British and Japanese observers in the definition of MCI.Methods Three observers, a Japanese oral radiologist, a British oral radiologist, and a British prosthodontist, classified the inferior cortex of the mandible on a set of 100 duplicated films of randomly selected panoramic radiographs twice, 2 weeks apart, using the MCI. The kappa index for intra- and interobserver agreement was calculated for the three observers.Results The kappa index for intraobserver agreement was moderate (0.56) to perfect (0.86) for the three observers. Interobserver agreement between the Japanese and the British oral radiologists was moderate at the first reading (kappa, 0.59) and substantial at the second (0.61). Interobserver agreement between the prosthodontist on the one hand and each of the oral radiologists on the other was fair (0.35, 0.38) at the first reading, but moderate (0.43, 0.60) at the second reading. The prosthodontist tended to overestimate the MCI compared with either of the oral radiologists.Conclusion Our results suggest that the definition of MCI used by Japanese observers is basically similar to that used by British observers, although some improvements in the definition of MCI would be necessary for clinical dental practice.  相似文献
