STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The failure of adhesion between a silicone-based resilient liner and a denture base is a significant clinical problem. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of denture base resin surface pretreatments with different chemical etchants preceding the silicone-based resilient liner application on microleakage and bond strength. The initial effects of chemical etchants on the denture base resin in terms of microstructural changes and flexural strength were also examined. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty-two polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture base resin (Meliodent) specimens consisting of 2 plates measuring 30 x 30 x 2 mm were prepared and divided into 7 groups (n = 6). Specimen groups were treated by immersion in acetone for 30 (A30) or 45 (A45) seconds, methyl methacrylate monomer for 180 (M180) seconds, and methylene chloride for 5 (MC5), 15 (MC15) or 30 (MC30) seconds. Group C had no surface treatment and served as the control. Subsequently, an adhesive (Mollosil) and a silicone-based resilient denture liner (Mollosil) were applied to the treated surfaces, and all specimens were immersed in the radiotracer solution (thalium-201 chloride) for 24 hours. Tracer activity (x-ray counts), as a parameter of microleakage, was measured using a gamma camera. For bond-strength measurement, 84 rectangular PMMA specimens (10 x 10 x 40 mm) were surface-smoothed for bonding and treated with the different chemical etchants using the same previously described group configurations. The adhesive and the silicone-based denture liner were applied to the treated surfaces. Tensile bond-strength (MPa) was measured in a universal testing machine. Flexural strength measurement was performed with 49 PMMA specimens (65 x 10 x 3.3 mm according to ISO standard 1567) in 7 groups (n = 7), with 1 flat surface of each treated with 1 of the chemical etchants preceding adhesive application. The flexural strength (MPa) was measured using a 3-point bending test in a universal testing machine. The data were analyzed by 1-way analysis of variance and the Tukey HSD test (alpha = .05). RESULTS: Significant differences were found between the groups in terms of microleakage (P < .0001). The lowest microleakage was observed in group M180 (30,000 x-ray counts) and the highest in the control group (44,000 x-ray counts). The mean bond strength to PMMA resin ranged from 1.44 to 2.22 MPa. All treated specimens showed significantly higher bond strength than controls (P < .01). The flexural strength values all significantly differed (P < .05). All experimental specimens that had chemical surface treatments showed lower flexural strength than controls (P < .05). CONCLUSION: Treating the denture base resin surface with chemical etchants increased the bond strength of silicone-based resilient denture liner to denture base and decreased the microleakage between the 2 materials. Considering the results of both tests together, the use of methyl methacrylate monomer for 180 seconds was found to be the most effective chemical treatment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Purpose/Aim: Acute mesenteric ischemia is a syndrome characterized by sudden onset abdominal pain followed by intestinal necrosis. Morbidity and mortality increase with delayed diagnosis. Even with the latest radiological diagnostic methods, early diagnosis and initiation of treatment can be delayed. Using an experimental model, here we aim to determine the relationship between the laboratory parameters used to detect acute mesenteric ischemia and the duration of irreversible ischemia. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups, all of which underwent general anesthesia: (i) Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) dissection with laparotomy was performed, and blood samples and intestinal segment samples were taken after 2 hr (Sham group); (ii) volvulus of one-third of the small intestines was performed manually by laparotomy, and blood samples and intestinal segment samples were taken after 2 hr (Volvulus group); (iii) SMA was ligated with laparotomy, and blood samples and intestinal segment samples were taken after 2 hr (SMA+ligated 2-hr group); (iv) SMA was ligated with laparotomy, and blood samples and intestinal segment samples were taken after 4 hr (SMA+ligated 4-hr group); and (v) SMA was ligated with laparotomy, and blood samples and intestinal segment samples were taken after 6 hr (SMA+ligated 6-hr group). Results: The mean lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities of the SMA+ligated 2-hr and SMA+ligated 6-hr groups were statistically higher than the control group (p = .004). Compared to the Sham and Volvulus groups, the mean lactate level of the SMA+ligated 6-hr group was significantly higher (p = .004). Compared to the Sham and Volvulus groups, the mean D-dimer levels of the SMA+ligated 4-hr and SMA+ligated 6-hr groups were significantly higher (p = .004 and .003, respectively). By histopathological evaluation, we found that pathological damage increased as the ischemia lengthened. Conclusions: Mesenteric ischemia leads to an irreversible loss of intestinal perfusion and an increase in parameters of ischemia. Irreversible tissue damage occurs after 4 hr of ischemia and peaks after 6 hr, whereas parameters of ischemia (D-dimer, LDH, and L-Lactate levels) are highest at 2 hr after the onset of ischemia.  相似文献

Objectives:

The ethanolic extract of Tragopogon longirostis var. longirostis, a wild edible plant in Anatolia was isolated, and its antioxidant, mutagenic, and antimutagenic properties were investigated.

Materials and Methods:

The antioxidant activity (AA) was determined by the inhibition of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, total AA, and phenolic compounds. The mutagenic and antimutagenic activities were investigated by Ames Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity test.

Results:

The IC50 value for DPPH radicals was 7.84 ± 0.603 mg/mL. The total AA increased with an increase in the concentration of the extracts (1, 5, 10, 20, and 30 mg/mL), containing linoleic acid emulsion. The total phenolic content was 284.71 ± 5.6 mg gallic acid equivalent/g extract. The results showed that the ethanolic extract can be considered safe, because it does not have any mutagenic effect at the tested concentrations. As a result, the ethanolic extract of the leaves exhibited antimutagenic effects at 2.5, 0.25, and 0.025 mg/plate concentrations.

Conclusions:

To our knowledge, this is the first study of the antioxidant, mutagenic, and antimutagenic activities of T. longirostis var. longirostis. ObjectiveSignificant progress was made in the understanding etiopathogenic factors related to MDD, including through research on the role of micro RNAs (miRs). We investigated plasma miRs as potential markers for MDD in patients treated with antidepressants.MethodsAt the initiation and at the end of twelve weeks of treatment, blood samples were collected and a structured diagnostic interview and a standardized depression rating scale for the presence and severity of major depression were done. The average decrease in HAMD score was 76.89%. Plasma miR expression profiling was performed by real time PCR. The lists of up-regulated (cut-off=2) and down-regulated miRs were imported into the miRWalk2.0 algorithm and used for target predictions. KEGG database pathways analysis was used to retrieve the pathways significantly targeted by at least two of the miRs.ResultsOf the 222 miRs detected in plasma samples of MDD patients, 40 were differentially expressed after treatment. Twenty-three miRs were significantly overexpressed with fold changes between 1.85 and 25.42, and 17 miRs were significantly downregulated with fold changes from 0.28 to 0.68. Pathway analysis revealed a list of 29 pathways for up-regulated miRs, and 20 pathways for down-regulated miRs. Six dysregulated miRs are common to all the top five pathways (Wnt signaling, Cancer, Endocytosis, Axon guidance, MAPK signaling): miR-146a-5p, miR-146b-5p, miR-221-3p, miR-24-3p, miR-26a-5p.ConclusionOverall, our miRWalk analysis of changes in plasma microRNAs after treatment of patients with major depression might open a new avenue for the understanding of Escitalopram mode of action and for its side effects.  相似文献
