CLINICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE HEMOSTATIC ACTION OF RHIZOMA PARIDIS BY CONTRACTION OF UTERUS

While it is claimed in References of tradi-tional Chinese materia medica that Rhizoma Pari-dis (RP) is an anti-inflammatory and analgesicdrug,the uterine contraction and hemostaticactions of RP have seldom been mentioned in theliterature.In 1972 we demonstrated the uterinecontraction effect of RP by animal experimenta-tion,and from 1979 to 1982 we used theRP extract preparation Gong Xue Ning (GXN宫血宁)in treating 300 cases of uterine hemorr-hage of various etiology with excellent results.In 1982 our trial of puerperal administration ofGXN in 50 cases indicated that the extract pro-moted uterine contraction and reduced the amountof puerperal hemorrhage.We report our analysisof these 350 cases as follows.
