Objectives : We investigated young people’s exposure to alcohol advertising, their intentions to consume and purchase alcohol products following the viewing of advertisements, and whether they perceived the actors in the advertisements as being under the age of 25 years. Methods : Face‐to‐face interviews were completed with 351 risky drinking 16–19‐year‐old Australians, with a sub‐sample (n=68) responding to a range of alcohol advertisements in an in‐depth interview. Results : Participants were exposed to alcohol advertisements from an average of seven specific contexts in the past 12 months, with younger adolescents more likely to recall TV and outdoor billboards (n=351). Positive perception of advertisements was associated with increased intention to use and to purchase advertised products (n=68). A liqueur advertisement actor was perceived by 94% as being under 25 years‐old, and almost 30% thought the advertisement was marketed at people younger than 18 years of age. Conclusions : Young people’s perceptions of alcohol advertising are not necessarily in line with expert/industry assessment; products are sometimes marketed in a way that is highly appealing to young people. Greater appeal was associated with increased intention to consume and to purchase products. Implications for public health : These results indicate deficiencies in the effectiveness of current advertising codes in regard to protecting the health and wellbeing of adolescents.  相似文献

Objective: To explore the impacts of existing policies on young Australian risky drinkers' access to alcohol and to gauge their support for proposed alcohol measures. Methods: The 16–19 year old participants were recruited from three Australian states using non‐random convenience sampling, for either a face‐to‐face or online quantitative survey (N=958). The sample was deliberately selected to represent drinkers whose consumption placed them in the riskiest drinking 20–25% of their age bracket. Results: Half (49%) the sample who were younger than the Australian legal purchase age reported it was ‘easy’ to buy alcohol from bottle stores, and 75% of those who had tried to purchase alcohol, said it was ‘easy’ the last time they tried. Half of those under 18, who had attempted to enter a licensed venue, reported they did not have their identification checked last time they gained access. Ninety per cent of all respondents drank within a private location at their last risky drinking session. Sixty‐five per cent supported ‘increasing the price of [alcohol by 20¢] a standard drink if the extra 20¢ was used to support prevention and treatment of alcohol problems'. Conclusions: Age‐ or intoxication‐based restrictions to alcohol were commonly bypassed. Implications: Point‐of‐sale alcohol controls require improvement to prevent under age access. Given that a significant proportion of drinking occasions for those under 18 were in private premises, prevention strategies need to target these locations. There were diverse levels of support for strategies to reduce harm, including potential community backing for an evidence‐based proposed price policy.  相似文献

In non-invasive ventilation, continuous monitoring of respiratory volumes is essential. Here, we present a method for the measurement of respiratory volumes by a single fiber-grating sensor of bending and provide the proof-of-principle by applying a calibration-test measurement procedure on a set of 18 healthy volunteers. Results establish a linear correlation between a change in lung volume and the corresponding change in a local thorax curvature. They also show good sensor accuracy in measurements of tidal and minute respiratory volumes for different types of breathing. Immunohistochemical and immunoelectron microscopical studies were carried out on 28 aged dogs' brains. Amyloid deposits were seen in the arteries and capillaries in the leptomeninges and in superficial areas of the cortices in 19 (67.9%) of the 28 dogs (10-22 years of age). Immunohistochemically, these amyloid deposits were reactive for anti-beta/A4 antibody. Additionally, a variable number of parenchymal deposits with diffuse beta/A4-immunoreactivity (diffuse plaques) was also noted throughout the cerebral cortex in 24/28 dogs (85.7%). However, these plaque lesions were undetectable in Congo red staining. Electron microscopically, amyloid fibrils, measuring 10 nm in width, were located mainly in the tunica media of the arteries, and in less involved vessels they tended to be present among collagen fibres in the adventitia and smooth muscle cells in the outer layer of the media. The plaque lesions appeared to contain sparse aggregations of amyloid fibrils. In immunoelectron microscopical examinations, all amyloid fibrils in both blood vessels and plaques were selectively labelled by gold particles. These findings indicate that aged dogs can provide a useful experimental model for research into the beta/A4-type of cerebral amyloidosis commonly seen in Alzheimer's disease.  相似文献

Our aim was to assess brain myo-inositol/creatine plus phosphocreatine (Cr) in the first week in term infants with neonatal encephalopathy using localized short echo time proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and to relate this to measures of brain injury, specifically lactate/Cr in the first week, basal ganglia changes on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and neurodevelopmental outcome at 1 y. Fourteen term infants with neonatal encephalopathy of gestational age (mean +/- SD) 39.6 +/- 1.6 wk, birth weight 3270 +/- 490 g, underwent MRI and magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 3.5 +/- 2.1 d. Five infants were entered in a pilot study of treatment with moderate whole-body hypothermia for neonatal encephalopathy; two were being cooled at the time of the scan. T(1)- and T(2)-weighted transverse magnetic resonance images were graded as normal or abnormal according to the presence or absence of the normal signal intensity of the posterior limb of the internal capsule and signal intensity changes in the basal ganglia. Localized proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy data were obtained from an 8-cm(3) voxel in the basal ganglia using echo times of 40 and 270 ms, and the peak area ratios of myo-inositol/Cr and lactate/Cr were measured. Outcome was scored using Griffith's development scales and neurodevelopmental examination at 1 y. MRI and outcome were normal in six infants and abnormal in eight. myo-Inositol/Cr and lactate/Cr were higher in infants with abnormal MRI and outcome (p < 0.01, p < 0.01, respectively). myo-Inositol/Cr and lactate/Cr were correlated (p < 0.01) and were both correlated to the Griffith's developmental scales (p < 0.01, p < 0.01, respectively). In conclusion, these preliminary data suggest that early increases in brain basal ganglia myo-inositol/Cr in infants with neonatal encephalopathy are associated with increased lactate/Cr, MRI changes of severe injury, and a poor neurodevelopmental outcome at 1 y.  相似文献
