The cleaning capacity of rotary Ni-Ti instrumentation using Profile GT files, coupled with irrigation energised by ultrasound, was evaluated. Thirty-six human mandibular incisors were instrumented in vitro using the crown-down technique with the Profile GT system to 1 mm from the anatomical apex to a size 30.04 taper file. The instrumented teeth were then divided randomly into four groups where various final irrigations were used: Group I: 100 ml of 1% NaOCl with a Luer-Lok syringe (control group); Group II, Group III and Group IV: final irrigation with 100 ml of 1% NaOCl energised by ultrasound for 1, 3 and 5 min, respectively. After biomechanical preparation, the apical thirds of the roots were submitted to histological processing and examination. The specimens were analysed at 40x magnification and the images submitted to morphometric analysis with an integration grid. anova showed a statistically significant difference (P < 0.01) between the irrigation techniques. Group I (Luer-Lok syringe) showed the highest percentage of debris (35.81 +/- 4.49) and was statistically different from the other groups energised by ultrasound: Group II (27.28 +/- 4.49), Group III (24.39 +/- 5.72) and Group IV (18.46 +/- 5.25). It was concluded that rotary instrumentation using Ni-Ti files associated with final irrigation of 1% NaOCl energised by ultrasound leads to better debris removal from the apical third of mesio-distally flattened root canal. 相似文献

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Provisional prostheses are subject to flexure under function. Selection of the appropriate material for their fabrication is difficult given the limited evidence-based information on the flexural strength of provisional resins. PURPOSE: This study compared the flexural strength of 5 methacrylate-based resins and 8 bis-acryl resins used to fabricate provisional crowns and fixed partial dentures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Bar-type specimens were fabricated according to American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association specification 27. After being immersed in artificial saliva at 37 degrees C for 10 days, the specimens were fractured under 3-point loading in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.75 mm/min. Maximal loads to fracture in Newtons were recorded. Mean flexural strengths were calculated in MPa (n = 10 per group). Comparisons were made with analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range test (P<.05). RESULTS: Mean flexural strengths ranged from 56.2 to 123.6 MPa. There were 4 statistically similar groups. The group with the highest strengths consisted of 4 bis-acryl materials (Provipont, Integrity, Protemp 3 Garant, and Luxatemp). CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study, flexural strengths were material- rather than category-specific. This study aimed to select past caries experience variables as caries predictors and to compare their prognostic accuracy with the variables used in a method of caries prognosis developed in a Swiss child population. The data used for the analyses originated from an 8-year longitudinal study starting in 1980 on caries of 7.5-year-old Dutch children. Stepwise logistic regression analyses provided predictor variables. The newly introduced variables D23fi, D(123)i and D23pifi were interchangeable and the most powerful caries predictors. For the sake of uniformity and ease of application, D23fi (number of fissures of the permanent first molar with non-cavitated or cavitated caries lesions) was chosen as the first variable in the logistic regression equations. The gain in accuracy of the second and third predictor variables (number of sound primary molars and the number of buccal and lingual smooth surfaces of the permanent first molar with non-cavitated or cavitated caries) in the regression equations was limited. The D1 condition of surfaces could be omitted from the prediction models. The present forced three-predictor-regression equations for 7.5-, 9.5- and 11.5-year-old children were evaluated to assess their prognostic performance by using the area under the ROC curve as a measure of prognostic quality. For the present regression equations, the area under the ROC curve was 81-87%, which was higher compared to the Swiss regression equations for caries prognosis. 相似文献

Aim To evaluate the biocompatibility of a resin-based endodontic filler (RealSeal) using the indirect cytotoxicity test.
Methodology Human gingival fibroblasts were cultured ex vivo . Pellets of the materials to be tested were incubated for 24, 48, and 72 h at 37 °C under sterile conditions to obtain their eluates. The fibroblasts were exposed to either diluted (50%) or undiluted eluates for 24 h. A culture medium with foetal calf serum was added to the control wells. Cell viability was estimated by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method. The data concerning cell viability were statistically analyzed using one-way anova test and Bonferroni multiple comparisons test.
Results Eluates obtained after 24 h of incubation with the resin filler did not reduce cellular viability. An increase in cellular viability, as compared with control cells, was observed in the gutta-percha group. The undiluted eluate from the polyether material was cytotoxic, causing an 82 ± 4% decrease in cellular viability. Eluates obtained after 48 h of incubation with the resin filler increased cellular viability, whereas the polyether significantly reduced viability. Gutta-percha did not cause any detectable change. After 72 h of incubation the eluate of the resin filler caused an increase in cellular viability, as did gutta-percha, whereas polyether caused a significant decrease.
Conclusions RealSeal resin filler was nontoxic in this laboratory model. Further investigations are necessary to verify its usefulness in clinical applications. 相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount of dentifrice applied to the toothbrush by school children using a liquid dentifrice (drop technique), when compared to toothpaste. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 178 school children (4-8 years old) from two cities in Brazil (Bauru and Bariri) participated in the present two-part crossover study. Children from Bauru received training regarding tooth-brushing techniques and use of dentifrice before data collection. In each phase, the amount of toothpaste or liquid dentifrice applied by the children to the toothbrush was measured, using a portable analytical balance (+ 0.01 g). Data were tested by analysis of covariance (Ancova) and linear regression (p < 0.05). RESULTS: The mean (+/- standard deviation) amounts of toothpaste and liquid dentifrice applied to the toothbrushes for children from Bauru were 0.41 +/- 0.20 g and 0.15 +/- 0.06 g, respectively. For children from Bariri, the amounts applied were and 0.48 +/- 0.24 g and 0.14 +/- 0.05 g, respectively. The amount of toothpaste applied was significantly larger than the amount of liquid dentifrice for both cities. Children from Bariri applied a significantly larger amount of toothpaste, when compared to those from Bauru. However, for the liquid dentifrice, there was no statistically significant difference between the cities. A significant correlation between the amount of toothpaste applied and the age of the children was verified, but the same was not found for the liquid dentifrice. CONCLUSION: The use of the drop technique reduced and standardised the amount of dentifrice applied to the toothbrush, which could reduce the risk of dental fluorosis for young children. 相似文献
