Familial gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is an exceedingly rare disease characterized by mutations in the c-kit and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha genes. We report the case of a 73-year-old woman with multiple submucosal tumors (SMTs) in the stomach and small intestine. Her elder sister had previously presented with multiple SMTs on examination and underwent surgery to remove the tumors because they showed a tendency to increase in size during follow-up. The sister's tumors were pathologically diagnosed as GISTs, and a germ line mutation was recognized in exon 17 of c-kit. Subsequently, the patient presented with multiple SMTs and the same germ line mutation as her sister. After 9 years of follow-up, a single tumor was found to have grown in size, and SILS was performed for this SMT, which was also pathologically diagnosed as a GIST. The Japanese Dermatological Association prepared guidelines focused on the treatment of skin ulcers associated with connective tissue disease/vasculitis practical in clinical settings of dermatological care. Skin ulcers associated with connective tissue diseases or vasculitis occur on the background of a wide variety of diseases including, typically, systemic sclerosis but also systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), dermatomyositis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), various vasculitides and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). Background
There were few studies assessed the postoperative sarcopenia in patients with cancers. The objective of present study was to assess whether postoperative development of sarcopenia could predict a poor prognosis in patients with adenocarcinoma of esophagogastric junction, (AEG) and upper gastric cancer (UGC).Methods
Patients with AEG and UGC who were judged as non-sarcopenic before surgery were reassessed the presence of postoperative development of sarcopenia 6 months after surgery. Patients were divided into the development group or non-development group, and clinicopathological factors and prognosis between these two groups were analyzed.Results
The 5-year overall survival rates were significantly poorer in the development group than non-development group (68.0% vs. 92.6%, P?=?0.0118). Multivariate analyses showed that postoperative development of sarcopenia was an independent prognostic factor for poor overall survival (P?=?0.0237).Conclusions

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the vascular changes induced by mucoperiosteal denudation of rat palate and to elucidate the effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) administration on the palatal vascular network in wound healing. METHODS: A total of 117 male Wistar rats were used for the study on their 20th postnatal day. The animals were divided into three groups: a scar formation group, a basic fibroblast growth factor group, and a control group. The scar formation and basic fibroblast growth factor groups had lateral mucoperiosteum excised from the palate. In the basic fibroblast growth factor group, a solution of basic fibroblast growth factor was injected into the operated area 1 week after excision. At 6, 8, and 10 weeks postoperatively, palatal vascular changes were investigated by immunohistochemical staining and corrosion cast techniques. RESULTS: Throughout the experimental period, there were significantly fewer vessels in the scar formation group than in the control and basic fibroblast growth factor groups. In the basic fibroblast growth factor group, the elongation of new vessels and capillary proliferation proceeded, and after 10 weeks a highly organized vascular network was established. The scar formation group showed few Volkmann's canals that were shrunken or closed, whereas the basic fibroblast growth factor group evidenced Volkmann's canals with arterioles or venules, as seen in the control. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggested that injection of basic fibroblast growth factor into palatal wounds improves the vascular supply to the operated mucosa and underlying bone during and after palatal wound healing, which may contribute to tissue remodeling of the palate during growth. 相似文献

This study concerns the histologic examination of apatite-titanium complex dental implants (two-piece, cylindrical type) in dogs. There was no plaque control. One to 3 months after implantation, the surface of the apatite root was directly bound to newly formed, woven bone. Seven-and-a-half months to 1 year after implantation, the apatite root was directly bound to the newly formed lamellar bone, which provided strong bone bonding (apatite-bone bonding). There appear to be two types of mechanisms for the resorption of apatite ceramics: first, cellular-type resorption by both multinuclear and mononuclear macrophages; and second, a noncellular, fluid mechanism (dissolution). The gingival sulcus around implants and downward growth of the epithelial cells could be observed in almost all of the implants. There was no cellular inflammation in the tissue around the implants, in the nasal cavity, or in the maxillary sinus. From this study we concluded that clinical application of this dental implant system would be practical. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Porphyromonas gingivalis is found in subgingival biofilm and is associated with periodontal disease. Bacteria in biofilms are able to resist higher antimicrobial concentrations than in suspension. Little is known about the susceptibility of P. gingivalis in biofilms to antimicrobial agents. The effects of chlorhexidine gluconate, minocycline hydrochloride, and metronidazole on P. gingivalis biofilms were examined in vitro. METHODS: P. gingivalis strain 381 biofilms were prepared on 32 hydroxyapatite disks. At 0, 24, 72, and 144 hours after perfusion of the three antimicrobial agents, two disks from each device were used to assess the antimicrobial effects by adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence, and for morphological investigation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). RESULTS: Close relationships were found between the results of the ATP analyses and the SEM observations in all groups examined. A significant decrease (P < 0.001) in ATP content was found between the chlorhexidine-treated and control groups. The extracellular matrix structure and P. gingivalis cells were altered in the presence of chlorhexidine. Minocycline hydrochloride also caused a decrease (P < 0.05) in the ATP content and morphological change on P. gingivalis biofilms. Metronidazole showed no significant efficacy against P. gingivalis biofilms. CONCLUSION: Chlorhexidine gluconate was effective at reducing the viability of P. gingivalis 381 cells in biofilms, while minocycline hydrochloride and metronidazole exhibited weaker effects. 相似文献
