N‐(2‐methylpropyl)‐N‐(1‐diethylphosphono‐2,2‐dimethylpropyl)‐O‐(2‐carboxyprop‐2‐yl) hydroxylamine (BlocBuilder MA) is, among the commercially available alkoxyamines, one of the most efficient for nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP). However, recent results have shown that it does not perform well for the NMP of isoprene. The occurrence of intramolecular hydrogen bonding (IHB) between the carboxylic function and the diethoxyphosphoryl group has been proposed as the reason for its low efficiency. In this article, the presence of this IHB is confirmed using IR, 31P NMR, 31P‐1H HOESY, and DFT calculation results. The solvent effect on this IHB and consequently on kd values is also investigated. However, combining kinetic analysis and rate measurements in various solvents, the influence of this IHB on the C? ON bond homolysis and reformation in alkoxyamine is shown to be very weak.

The aims of this study were to test the reproducibility of the 6-minute stepper test (6MST), and evaluate its accuracy in detecting improved functional capacity after pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Thirty-five COPD outpatients performed two 6MSTs in the same session, before (6MST1 and 6MST2) and after (6MST3 and 6MST4) PR. The performance, perceived exertion, heart rate and arterial oxygen saturation were measured during each 6MST. The performance was higher during the second 6MST of the same session (before PR: 514 strokes during the 6MST2 > 471 strokes during the 6MST1, and after PR: 559 strokes during the 6MST4 > 508 strokes during the 6MST3; p = 0.04). After PR, 6MST performance was higher than before PR (6MST3 > 6MST1 and 6MST4 > 6MST2; P < 0.01). The bias (the difference in the number of strokes) between the two 6MSTs from the same session (before PR: 6MST2-6MST1 = 42 strokes vs after PR: 6MST4-6MST3 = 52 strokes) was not different (P = 0.34). However, both bias were greater than 0 (P < 0.001). The mean performances for the two 6MSTs of the same session (before PR: 6MST1 and 6MST2 and after PR: 6MST3 and 6MST4) were correlated with the bias between these performances (P < 0.01; r = 0.32). The perceived exertions were lower after PR (P < 0.02). The systematic improvement of performance (8–10%) during the second 6MST of the each session may be explained from the warming of hydraulic jacks of the stepper and/or learning effect. We describe Collinsium ciliosum from the early Cambrian Xiaoshiba Lagerstätte in South China, an armored lobopodian with a remarkable degree of limb differentiation including a pair of antenna-like appendages, six pairs of elongate setiferous limbs for suspension feeding, and nine pairs of clawed annulated legs with an anchoring function. Collinsium belongs to a highly derived clade of lobopodians within stem group Onychophora, distinguished by a substantial dorsal armature of supernumerary and biomineralized spines (Family Luolishaniidae). As demonstrated here, luolishaniids display the highest degree of limb specialization among Paleozoic lobopodians, constitute more than one-third of the overall morphological disparity of stem group Onychophora, and are substantially more disparate than crown group representatives. Despite having higher disparity and appendage complexity than other lobopodians and extant velvet worms, the specialized mode of life embodied by luolishaniids became extinct during the Early Paleozoic. Collinsium and other superarmored lobopodians exploited a unique paleoecological niche during the Cambrian explosion.Onychophorans, or velvet worms, comprise a relatively small phylum (∼180 species) of soft-bodied panarthropods constituting a minor component of modern rainforest ecosystems around the world (1). The overall organization of extant onychophorans is remarkably conserved (2), typified by a low morphological variability and homogeneous autoecologies as ambush predators of small invertebrates. An emerging fossil record, however, points to a substantially wider range of forms and habits during their early evolutionary history (3–8). Paleozoic lobopodians—a paraphyletic group of soft-bodied extinct organisms resembling worms with legs—occupy basal phylogenetic positions within the stem lineages of Onychophora, Tardigrada, and Euarthropoda (3, 6, 9), and thus offer critical insights about the early evolution and paleobiology of panarthropod phyla.
