Phonological disorders in children: changes in phonological process use during treatment 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Unintelligible speech in childhood is often characterised by the use of unusual or deviant (i.e. non-developmental) phonological processes, e.g. initial consonant deletion. These processes are reported to appear at speech onset and to undergo little spontaneous change during the preschool years. The study reported here documents the changes that occurred in the phonological systems of seven phonologically disordered children during remediation that targeted unusual phonological processes. Qualitative changes in phonological process use were observed for all children. Six of the children made quantitative improvement in terms of the percentage consonants produced correctly in spontaneous speech. Mixing pharmaceutical preparations of soluble neutral regular insulin solution (NRI) and neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) crystalline insulin suspension leads to a reduction in the measurable amount of soluble insulin in the formulation supernatant. However in spite of the loss in soluble insulin, the time-actions of these components have been shown, in clinical trials, to be unaffected. The interaction between these different physical forms of insulin has been studied using reversed-phase HPLC, isothermal titrating calorimetry, and Doppler electrophoretic light scattering analysis. Sorbent surface and solution perturbation studies revealed that the NRI adsorbs to the surface of the NPH crystal with an equilibrium constant ranging from 104 M–1 to 107 M–!, depending on the protamine concentration, pH, ionic strength, and temperature. This adsorption behavior suggests that the binding is mediated by electrostatic interactions arising between the positively-charged NPH crystal and the negatively-charged NRI hexamer. Doppler electrophoretic light scattering results, used to probe the pH-dependent surface charge of NPH and soluble insulin hexamer, support the conclusion that electrostatic interactions mediate the adsorption process. Adsorption studies under physiological conditions indicate that the elevated temperature and ionic strength, in a subcutaneous depot, are sufficient to lead to the dissociation of the NRI/NPH complex that exists in these NPH mixture formulations. 相似文献

2,4-Pentanedione (2,4-PD: CAS No. 123-54-6) is a volatile industrial chemical of moderate acute toxicity, centrally neurotoxic by repeated exposure to high vapor concentrations, fetotoxic, and clastogenic. Its wide use and known toxicology indicated the conduct of a dominant lethal assay. Male Fischer 344 rats, 20 per group, were exposed to 2,4-PD vapor concentrations (mean +/- SD) of 0, 99.1 +/- 2.2, 412 +/- 12.6 and 694 +/- 9.1 ppm, for 6 hr/day for 5 consecutive days. The day following the final exposure they were bred to unexposed female Fischer 344 rats, 2 per week for 8 consecutive weeks. Weight loss occurred with males during 2,4-PD exposure for the 412 and 694 ppm groups, with compensatory increased weight at 694 ppm, for the first two weeks postexposure. No histopathological change was seen in brain, testes or thymus from high concentration males sacrificed after eight weeks of mating. Minor transient reproductive and gestational effects were present at 412 and 694 ppm. At week 2 there was a reduction, not statistically significant, in the number of corpora lutea and total and viable implants per dam at 694 ppm, and a slight increase in preimplantation loss. At week 3 the number of pregnant females was slightly reduced at 412 and 694 ppm, causing a lowered female fertility index. At week 4 there was a slight reduction in the number of total and viable implants per litter and a significant preimplantation loss at 694 ppm. The dominant lethal factor (FL%) was increased slightly at 694 ppm for weeks 2 and 4. Thus, the "no observable effect" level for dominant lethal effects was 99 ppm. The results, although not statistically significant, are dose-related and compatible with a transient slight dominant lethal effect at the spermatid stage of spermatogenesis. 相似文献

We report two cases of extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) of the pancreas, diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration (FNA). Plasmacytoma of the pancreas is a rare neoplasm with only 12 cases recorded in the literature. Because of its scarcity and the cytomorphologic similarity between plasma cells and endocrine cells, EMP of the pancreas may be confused with neuroendocrine (islet cell) tumors of the pancreas. Immunohistochemical staining for light chain and/or neuroendocrine markers will prevent diagnostic error when interpreting plasmacytoid neoplasms of any site susceptible to endocrine tumors, including the pancreas. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

Synaptosomes have been prepared from human brain obtained at autopsies carried out up to 24 h postmortem (p.m.). They showed generally good retention of morphology, as well as accumulation of tissue potassium and linear rates of oxygen uptake. In response to veratrine depolarization they showed increased respiration rate, decreased tissue potassium content and the specific release of transmitter amino acids. Regression analysis indicated that metabolically and functionally active preparations may be obtained up to ca. 25 h p.m. Preparations obtained from patients dying with brain injury were inactive. 相似文献

Synergy between sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) and trimethoprim (TMP) was predicted by a two-plate agar dilution breakpoint MIC system. Comparison of the results of this new system with those of the disk diffusion system (P.M. Waterworth, Postgrad. Med. J. Suppl. 45:21-27, 1969) after tests with 1,518 Enterobacteriaceae isolates showed an overall correlation of 99.8%, a sensitivity of 99.7%, and a specificity of 100%. The method involves spot inoculation of 10(3) organisms onto each of two plates, one containing 160 micrograms of SMZ per ml and the other 8 micrograms of TMP per ml (in Oxoid IsoSensitest medium with 3% agar supplemented with 7% saponin-lysed horse blood), and then incubation overnight at 37 degrees C in air. All but three organisms for which SMZ-TMP was found to be synergistic by disk testing were inhibited on both plates. Three isolates of Proteus mirabilis, which failed to correlate with disk testing by this new system, all showed SMZ MICs of 1,000 micrograms/ml. The SMZ-TMP combination was falsely predicted to be nonsynergistic against these three organisms. There were no false synergy predictions by the breakpoint MIC system. Laboratories should report susceptibility to the SMZ-TMP combination only when there is synergy between the constituents.
