Previous studies have reported that statin or ezetimibe therapy has an anti-inflammatory effect. However, the results of individual studies on the effect of statin therapy in combination with ezetimibe on C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) levels have not been clear. Therefore, the present systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to evaluate the effect of statin therapy in combination with ezetimibe on CRP and hs-CRP levels.
Methods
A literature search was carried out on the MEDLINE, SciVerse Scopus, and Clarivate Analytics Web of Science databases up to February 2022 to find eligible studies. The pooled effect sizes were considered for weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for CRP and hs-CRP, and it was also determined as standardized weighted mean difference (SMD) for overall CRP. For all variables, a random-effects model was used.
Results
Of the 57 studies included in the systematic review, 53 were used for meta-analysis. Statin therapy in combination with ezetimibe significantly reduced the serum levels of hs-CRP (WMD ??0.2 mg/l; 95% CI ??0.4, ??0.1, P???0.001) and overall CRP (SMD ??0.16 mg/l; 95% CI ??0.2, ??0.07, P???0.001). Nevertheless, CRP levels were not significantly changed by combination therapy. A significant association was observed between the serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) changes and hs-CRP levels, which can justify the source of heterogeneity.
Conclusions
The current study showed that statin therapy in combination with ezetimibe could be effective in reducing the levels of hs-CRP and overall CRP.
Background: Making progressin treatment of all branches of cancers has increasedthe percent of patients that never experience the event of interest. These cases are called immune or cure and models for handling the data included cure fraction rate, are referred to as cure model or long-term survival models. Methods:The data for this historical cohort study, were collected from leukemia patients diagnosed between 2007 to 2014 and followed up until 2016 in Taleghani hospital and received BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant). Some data had to be excluded because of incomplete information. Using recorded files mostly and phone calls rarely, were made to confirm whether the patients were still alive or not. Death due to leukemia was regarded as interested event. Analysis were performed by R version 3.4.1and Stata version 14. Results: Number of recurrents after receiving BMT, pre-transplant Hb and age at diagnosis were found as significant prognostics of survival time. HD patients had the highest 5-years overall survival in category of diagnosis type with 81.3%. Cure fraction was estimated to be 64.1%. Conclusion: According to high percentage of censoring, using long-term model had better fit. 相似文献
Ultrasound bladder vibrometry (UBV) parameters have been shown in previous studies to strongly correlate with measurements from urodynamic studies. Just like urodynamic studies, UBV can be performed in supine and sitting positions. The objective of this study is to compare UBV parameters obtained in the two different positions using statistical methods. We recruited eight volunteers with healthy bladders for this purpose. The elasticity, group velocity squared and thickness of the bladder were the UBV parameters of interest, and their values were recorded at different bladder volumes for each volunteer. The results presented indicate that the measurements made in the two positions are in agreement using the Bland–Altman method and a parameter q which compares the values at each bladder volume for each volunteer. UBV parameters were also repeatable for measurements recorded in the supine and sitting positions. 相似文献
Bacterial biofilms are a cause of contamination in a wide range of medical and biological areas. Ultrasound is a mechanical energy that can remove these biofilms using cavitation and acoustic streaming, which generate shear forces to disrupt biofilm from a surface. The aim of this narrative review is to investigate the literature on the mechanical removal of biofilm using acoustic cavitation to identify the different operating parameters affecting its removal using this method. The properties of the liquid and the properties of the ultrasound have a large impact on the type of cavitation generated. These include gas content, temperature, surface tension, frequency of ultrasound and acoustic pressure. For many of these parameters, more research is required to understand their mechanisms in the area of ultrasonic biofilm removal, and further research will help to optimise this method for effective removal of biofilms from different surfaces. 相似文献

Phenomenon: Attitudes of medical students toward family medicine as a specialty choice can provide information on the future supply of family physicians. Due to the current worldwide shortage of family physicians, these attitudes, with their subsequent effects on the state and dynamics of the healthcare system, are important to investigate. Approach: A web-based questionnaire was sent to 600 medical students, selected by a systematic random sampling technique, in 7 Egyptian medical schools. Participants were surveyed to assess their perception of the family medicine specialty as a future career and explore the impact of different factors, including undergraduate family medicine clerkships, on their attitudes toward family medicine. Findings: We had a response rate of 75.2% (n = 451). Although 90.7% of students believed in the vital role that family medicine can play in Egypt's healthcare system, only 4.7% showed an intention to choose it as a future career. Students choosing family medicine as a first-career choice were more likely to have a prior contact with family physicians as consumers. Exposure to an undergraduate family medicine curriculum was associated with increased knowledge about family medicine but not the intentions to pursue it as a career. Insights: Medical students in Egypt have a positive perception of family medicine as an important specialty but low interest in its choice as a future career. 相似文献
