The study aims to evaluate the effects of non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) treatments on dentin wetting and surface free energy (SFE) and compare the effects of NTAP treatment, etch-and-rinse, and self-etch protocols for application of universal adhesives.
Materials and methods
Mid-coronal dentin of intact third molars was used to measure contact angles of distilled water, ethylene-glycol, and diiodomethane and calculate SFE following different NTAP preset treatments (feeding gas consisting of pure He, He + 1% O2, He + 1.5% O2), power input (1 or 3 W), and tip-to-surface distance (2, 4, or 8 mm). Contact angles of reference liquids and SFE of dentin following He + 1.5% O2 at 3-W and 4-mm treatment was compared to phosphoric acid etching. Contact angles of Single Bond Universal (SBU; 3M ESPE) and Clearfil Universal Bond (CUB; Kuraray Noritake) were measured following NTAP, etch-and-rinse, and self-etch protocols.
Results
NTAP significantly reduced contact angles of reference liquids and increased dentin SFE compared to untreated dentin (p < 0.05). O2 intensified the effect of He NTAP (p < 0.05). NTAP and phosphoric acid increased dentin polarity and Lewis base surface characteristics. Phosphoric acid increased contact angles of adhesives compared to the self-etch protocol (p < 0.05). NTAP resulted in lower adhesive contact angles than phosphoric acid, the difference being statistically significant for CUB (p < 0.05). Compared to the self-etch protocol, NTAP slightly reduced CUB contact angle but not that of SBU (p > 0.05).
Conclusions
He NTAP with and without O2 increased dentin wetting and SFE, surpassing the effect of phosphoric acid and lowering adhesive contact angles. NTAP produced no apparent micro-morphological changes on dentin surface comparable to acid etching.
Clinical significance
NTAP treatment of dentin prior to adhesive application increases dentin wetting and surface free energy facilitating better adhesive distribution on dentin surface compared to phosphoric acid etching and similar to the “self-etch” application protocol.
A 42‐year‐old man presented with a viral prodrome and tested positive for influenza A. He rapidly deteriorated developing cardiogenic shock, rhabdomyolysis, and acute kidney injury. Patient improved 1 week later with supportive measures including vasopressors, inotropes, and an intraaortic balloon pump. We report this case as it highlights the discordance between echocardiographic ventricular wall thickening as a result of myocardial edema, and electrocardiographic findings at presentation, with a reversal in findings at time of resolution. Additionally, there was some suggestion of a regional pattern to the reduced longitudinal strain. 相似文献
The extensive destructive potential of the keratocyst has been well recognized but penetration of the keratocyst into the skull base is rare.3 cases showing such aggressive behavior and rare location were seen and treated; 2 are reported in this paper. Both cases illustrate the importance of early radical treatment once the aggressive nature of keratocyst is recognized. 相似文献
A fluid transport model study was used to compare the sealing ability of five root canal sealers (AH26, AH Plus, Apexit, Diaket, and Ketac-Endo) on 60 single-rooted teeth after 1 yr of storage. The root canals were prepared with Gates Glidden drills by using a step-back technique before lateral condensation of gutta-percha with the tested sealers. The specimens were stored in saline solution for 1 yr at 37 degrees C. The leakage was measured by the movement of an air bubble in a capillary glass tube connected to the experimental root section. Apexit (0.490 microl) leaked significantly more than AH Plus (0.378 microl) and Ketac-Endo (0.357 microl), whereas AH26 (0.390 microl) and Diaket (0.429 microl) showed no significant difference from either Apexit or from AH Plus and Keto-Endo. 相似文献
This in vitro study evaluated the resin-dentin interface formed by two 2-step and two 1-step self-etching adhesive systems under SEM. Class V cavities (4 x 2.5 x 1.5 mm) were prepared on the buccal surfaces of 25 extracted intact human third molars using a carbide bur in a high-speed handpiece. Four self-etching systems with corresponding resins were used: two 2-step systems, AdheSE (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Contax (DMG Hamburg), one 1-step/2 components system Futurabond NR (Voco) and a 1-step/1 component adhesive G-Bond (GC Corp). An etch and rinse system, PQ Clear (Ultradent), was used as a control. The teeth were thermocycled (500 cycles, 5 degrees /55 degrees C, 30 seconds dwell time), and 2 sections were made longitudinally through the restorations with a low-speed diamond saw, producing approximately 1-mm wide samples. The samples were polished with silicon carbide paper of increasing grit (400-1000), demineralized (6N HCl, 30 seconds), deproteinized (2.5% NaOC1, 10 minutes), left to air dry for 24 hours in a desiccator under low vacuum pressure, gold sputtered and viewed under SEM (JEOL-JSM-6460LV). In the AdheSE, Contax and Futurabond NR specimens, resin tag penetration into the tubules and lateral tags could be seen. G-Bond showed different interface morphology, with a tight, thin continuous junction and almost no resin penetration into tubules. PQ Clear samples exhibited the highest number of resin tags with numerous lateral tags. A clearly defined hybrid layer was seen in the Contax and PQ Clear specimens. Investigated self-etching systems showed similar interfacial morphology with dentin, except for the 1 step/1 component adhesive G-Bond. The degree of demineralization and interaction with dentin correlated with the acidity of the self-etching primers/adhesives. Fewer resin tags were formed with self-etching primers/adhesives than with the etch and rinse system. 相似文献
