Acromioclavicular joint dislocation: a comparative biomechanical study of the palmaris-longus tendon graft reconstruction with other augmentative methods in cadaveric models

Background  

Acromioclavicular injuries are common in sports medicine. Surgical intervention is generally advocated for chronic instability of Rockwood grade III and more severe injuries. Various methods of coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction and augmentation have been described. The objective of this study is to compare the biomechanical properties of a novel palmaris-longus tendon reconstruction with those of the native AC+CC ligaments, the modified Weaver-Dunn reconstruction, the ACJ capsuloligamentous complex repair, screw and clavicle hook plate augmentation.     

Oculomotor nerve palsy due to thrombosis of a posterior communicating artery aneurysm following diagnostic angiography

We present a patient who developed a painful third nerve galsy two days after angiography had demonstrated a large aneurysm on the P1 segment of the left posterior cerebral artery. CT at this stage demonstrated extensive thrombus within the previously uncomplicated aneurysm. The haemodynamics of this aneurysm resulted in incomplete clearance of contrast medium from its fundus and we posit that this may have promoted thrombus formation. Six months later the aneurysm was shown angiographically to be completely occluded.     

高效液相色谱法测定右旋儿茶素血浆浓度及药代动力学参数

本文建立了体液中右旋儿茶素的RP-HPLC测定方法。采用C_(18)键合相硅胶为填料的固相提取柱进行样品预处理,右旋儿茶素的提取回收率为79.8%.应用二极管阵列检测器对色谱峰纯度进行鉴定。该法精密度好,方法回收率近100%,日内、日间的变异系数为2.4～5.6%,血浓69.6～1160 ng/ml范围内呈线性关系,r=0.9993。家兔静注右旋儿茶素18mg/kg,其药代动力学过程符合二室模型,分布相半衰期为0.129 h,消除相半衰期为1.19h。     

Needs assessment for patient education for people with HIV/AIDS

This study examines the need for a comprehensive patient educationprogram that emphasizes self-help for adults living with HIV/AIDS.Data were collected using a self-administered, written questionnaire.Participants were recruited from agencies in northern California.This study revealed that 59 of 70 respondents were relativelysatisfied with the services, including patient education, availablein their community. Of the 70 respondents, 69 felt there wasa need for a comprehensive patient education program. The study'sfindings illustrate both distinct differences and commonaltiesbetween the experiences, perceived needs and priorities of maleand female respondents. These findings will help HIV/AIDS serviceagencies re-structure their health education programs and assistin patient education program development. Future research inthis area needs to address the perceived needs and prioritiesof different subgroups living with HIV/AIDS.     

Antigens of Mycobacterium leprae in the cerebrospinal fluid of leprosy patients: detection by monoclonal-antibody-based sandwich immunoradiometric assay and avidin/biotin immunoblotting.

Mycobacterium leprae antigens could be detected in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with leprosy, using a monoclonal-antibody-based sandwich immunoradiometric assay (SIRMA). Antigens of 12 kD, 35 kD and 30-40 kD were detected using ML06, ML04, and ML34 monoclonal antibodies, respectively. The 30-40-kD polysaccharide antigen, although present in larger amounts in M. leprae than the 12-kD and 35-kD protein antigens, was found in the CSF of comparatively fewer subjects. The antigen capture assay has been found sensitive to the level of nanograms. Avidin-biotin-based immunoblotting using pooled leprosy sera detected a larger number of antigens than using anti-M. leprae antisera raised in rabbits. The immunoblotting of CSF samples revealed about three antigens in the region of 100-160 kD and three more in the region of 45-60 kD as probed by leprosy sera. This study has for the first time revealed the presence of M. leprae antigens in the CSF of leprosy patients and the probable involvement of the central nervous system in leprosy.
