Lymphoscintigraphy for sentinel node (SN) localization was performed on a 60-y-old man with a melanoma on his back. Skin contamination occurred as a result of the radiopharmaceutical dose administration. Skin contamination could result in a misinterpretation of the SN location. Careful observation of the procedure avoided a misinterpretation with this study.  相似文献

Malignant myoepithelioma is a rare salivary gland neoplasm that can arise either de novo or within a pre-existing pleomorphic adenoma. We report a case of malignant myoepithelioma arising from a pleomorphic adenoma of the soft palate. A 70-year-old woman presented in our department with a very large tumor of the soft palate. The patient had a history of a pleomorphic adenoma at the same location that was surgically removed 2 years ago. A second operation, with intraoral excision of the tumor was performed. Histological examination of the recurrence revealed a malignant spindle cell neoplasm with an infiltrative growth pattern and a high mitotic rate. Immunohistochemical investigation confirmed the diagnosis of a low-grade carcinoma of myoepithelial origin with free surgical margins. The patient remains free of disease for more than twelve months after the end of treatment.  相似文献

Ultrasound is the first imaging modality to be performed in emergency conditions of the scrotum. The commonest pathologic entities are divided into the 4 following groups: torsion, trauma, infection, and tumors. Sonographic examination should be performed as soon as possible to ensure fast diagnosis and treatment. Less acute conditions can also be noted while scanning on an emergency basis, such as anatomic variants, hydrocele, oscheocele, clinically evident varicocele, calcifications, etc. Although not threatening for scrotal integrity, they should be assessed during an emergency examination or later on. In this article, complex scrotal anatomy is reviewed and the basic examination technique is described. The commonest emergency conditions are analyzed, along with their pathophysiological basis. Nonemergent entities are also briefly mentioned. Ultrasound images of the commonest emergency conditions are demonstrated.  相似文献

Thermochemical materials (TCM) are among the most promising systems to store high energy density for long-term energy storage. To be eligible as candidates, the materials have to fit many criteria such as complete reversibility of the reaction and cycling stability, high availability of the material at low cost, environmentally friendliness, and non-toxicity. Among the most promising TCM, the Mg(OH)2/MgO system appears worthy of attention for its properties in line with those required. In the last few decades, research focused its attention on the optimization of attractive hydroxide performance to achieve a better thermochemical response, however, often negatively affecting its energy density per unit of volume and therefore compromising its applicability on an industrial scale. In this study, pure Mg(OH)2 was developed using different synthesis procedures. Reverse deposition precipitation and deposition precipitation methods were used to obtain the investigated samples. By adding a cationic surfactant (cetyl trimethylammonium bromide), deposition precipitation Mg(OH)2 (CTAB-DP-MH) or changing the precipitating precursor (N-DP-MH), the structural, physical and morphological characteristics were tuned, and the results were compared with a commercial Mg(OH)2 sample. We identified a correlation between the TCM properties and the thermochemical behavior. In such a context, it was demonstrated that both CTAB-DP-MH and N-DP-MH improved the thermochemical performances of the storage medium concerning conversion (64 wt.% and 74 wt.% respectively) and stored and released heat (887 and 1041 kJ/kgMg(OH)2). In particular, using the innovative technique not yet investigated for thermal energy storage (TES) materials, with NaOH as precipitating precursor, N-DP-MH reached the highest stored and released heat capacity per volume unit, ~684 MJ/m3.  相似文献

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) shares several risk factors with atherosclerosis, as it is associated with components of the metabolic syndrome. However, genetic variations have also been linked to the risk of NAFLD, such as adiponutrin/patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing the protein 3 (PNPLA3) rs738409 polymorphism. The aim of the study was to determine the associations of thePNPLA3 rs738409 polymorphism with NAFLD and atherosclerosis risk factors in children and adolescents from northern Greece. A total of 91 children/adolescents who followed a Mediterranean eating pattern with no particular restrictions were studied. They were divided into three subgroups, according to their body mass index (BMI) and the presence or absence of liver disease. Diagnosis of NAFLD was based on a liver ultrasound, while the distribution of the PNPLA3 rs738409 polymorphism was investigated in all the participants. From the components of metabolic syndrome, only BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, and the homeostasis model of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) differed significantly between groups. The rs738409 polymorphism was significantly associated with BMI and NAFLD, while lipid values had no significant association with either NAFLD or gene polymorphism. This study shows that in Greekchildren, there is a significant association between the rs738409polymorphism in the PNPLA3 gene and hepatic steatosis, regardless of bodyweight.  相似文献
