Purpose

Myofibroma is a rare benign spindle cell neoplasm, and the aim of the present study was to carry out a literature review and present a clinical case of a patient with a myofibroma in the submandibular region and its management.

Conclusions

Diagnosis of myofibroma can be reached by a histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis and surgical excision is the treatment of choice.  相似文献

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects approximately 5 % of school-aged children and 2.5 % of adults. Genetic studies in ADHD have pointed to genes in different neurobiological systems, with relatively small individual effects. The mineralocorticoid receptor is the main receptor involved in the initial triggering of stress response. Therefore, its encoding gene (NR3C2) is a candidate for psychiatric disorder studies, including ADHD, and behavioral phenotypes. There is evidence that the Val allele of the MRI180V polymorphism (rs5522) increases the risk of depression, attention and cognitive deficits. We investigated the possible role of the mineralocorticoid receptor gene in the symptom dimensions and susceptibility to persistent ADHD. We compared genotype and allele frequencies in 478 adult patients with ADHD and 597 controls and symptom dimensions in 449 patients and 132 controls. Diagnoses were based on the DSM-IV criteria. ADHD symptom dimensions were investigated with SNAP-IV for ADHD severity and Barkley scales for severity and impairment. Carriers of the Val allele presented higher inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity and impairment scores, while genotype and allele frequencies did not differ between patients and controls. These results are consistent with a possible link between genetic variations in the HPA axis and inattention and hyperactivity measures.  相似文献

Several genetic factors were implicated in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A case–control study was carried out to verify the associations of T-786C polymorphism in the promoter region of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene with RA. One hundred and five consecutive RA patients and 100 healthy controls were genotyped. The distribution of the T-786C genotype and alleles did not differ significantly between RA patients and controls. Nevertheless, the frequency of extraarticular manifestations was significantly greater among the carriers of the C/C genotype than among carriers of the T/C and T/T genotypes (P = 0.022). The C/C genotype was significantly associated with extraarticular manifestations compared with the T/T and T/C genotypes taken together (OR = 4.9, 95% CI = 1.3–18.9). The C allele was significantly associated with extraarticular manifestations of RA (P corr = 0.032). The results suggested the existence of an association between the T-786C polymorphism of the eNOS gene and extraarticular manifestations of RA.  相似文献

A number of studies have demonstrated that stress is involved in all aspects of smoking behavior, including initiation, maintenance and relapse. The mineralocorticoid (MR) and glucocorticoid (GR) receptors are expressed in several brain areas and play a key role in negative feedback of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. As nicotine increases the activation of the HPA axis, we wondered if functional SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) in MR and GR coding genes (NR3C2 rs5522 and NR3C1 rs6198, respectively) may be involved in smoking susceptibility. The sample included 627 volunteers, of which 514 were never-smokers and 113 lifetime smokers. We report an interaction effect between rs5522 and rs6198 SNPs. The odds ratio (OR) for the presence of the NR3C2 rs5522 Val allele in NR3C1 rs6198 G carriers was 0.18 (P = 0.007), while in rs6198 G noncarriers the OR was 1.83 (P = 0.027). We also found main effects of the NR3C1 rs6198 G allele on number of cigarettes smoked per day (P = 0.027) and in total score of the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (P = 0.007). These findings are consistent with a possible link between NR3C2 and NR3C1 polymorphisms and smoking behavior and provide a first partial replication for a nominally significant GWAS finding between NR3C2 and tobacco smoking.  相似文献

Serra do Cipó is part of a Brazilian bioma recently qualified as a “hotspot for conservation priority,” an area featuring exceptional concentrations of endemic species and experiencing exceptional loss of habitat. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of 20 plant species occurring in this habitat was evaluated against 4 bacteria and 2 fungal strains. About 75% of the species were active against at least one microorganism. None of the species inhibited the growing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisae. The activities of Lavoisiera cordata and Xyris pilosa extracts against Staphylococcus aureus were comparable to that of the pure antibiotic used as a positive control. The preliminary toxicity of the active extracts was evaluated by the brine shrimp lethality test and only three plants showed LD 50 values greater than 1000µg/ml, suggesting that they are relatively non-toxic. Some of the assayed plants are endangered species, presenting different degrees of extinction risk. According to our data, the plant activity against more than one microorganism seems to be advantageous to the evaluated species in protecting them against extinction.  相似文献

The great incidence and controversies related to the diagnosis, treatment, surgical accesses, and type of osteosynthesis materials confer an outstanding role to condylar fractures among facial fractures. Plate configurations, with diverse formats and sizes, may be used to surgically resolve condylar fractures. With the purpose of improving the advantages and minimizing the disadvantages of fixation techniques, the neck screw was developed aiming at the needed stabilization to render a correct fixation through a system of dynamic compression. This is achieved by increasing the contact between the fractured bone stumps, as well as assisting at the time of fracture reduction. The present paper aims at comparing the fixation and stability of mandibular condylar fractures using the neck screw and an overlaid “L”-shaped-4-hole-2 mm plate on the one hand, with a system in which the neck screw and the “L”-shaped plate form a single structure, having been joined by a welded point, on the other hand. The results with the neck screw are satisfactory, and, thus, it is an alternative for the reduction and fixation of fractures of the mandibular condyle, whether or not a plate is joined to the structure, provided it is correctly prescribed and with adequate surgical sequence and technique.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: .To evaluate associations of growth velocity with inflammatory markers and cumulative dose of glucocorticoid in a cohort of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) followed during 1 year. METHODS: Seventy-nine patients were evaluated. Disease activity was evaluated by a pediatric rheumatologist. Anthropometric data were classified according to the World Health Organization standards. Tanner growth velocity curves were used; values below the Z-score < or = -2 were considered low growth velocity. Serum concentrations of interleukin 6 (IL-6) were measured by ELISA, and values > 1 pg/ml were considered elevated. RESULTS: The prevalence of low growth velocity was 25.3%, and it was associated with active disease on followup visit, elevated IL-6, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein, and higher cumulative glucocorticoid doses. In the multiple linear regression with growth velocity as the dependent variable, only elevated IL-6 level was independently and negatively associated with growth velocity. CONCLUSION: Low growth velocity is highly prevalent in children with JIA. Elevated IL-6 levels seem to have an important negative influence on growth in these children, while total glucocorticoid exposure appears to be a secondary factor.  相似文献
