AbstractPrimary hyperparathyroidism presenting first time with severe hypercalcemia is rare in pregnancy. We report a case of primary hyperparathyroidism due to a cystic parathyroid adenoma presenting as severe hypercalcemia with acute pancreatitis in second trimester of pregnancy. Acute pancreatitis was managed by conservative treatment. Hypercalcemia failed to respond to medical management and ultimately responded to ultrasound-guided ethanol ablation of parathyroid adenoma. The delivery was uneventful and patient continues to remain normocalcemic during follow up. As such, ethanol ablation of parathyroid adenoma may be considered during pregnancy in case of failure of response to medical management and when surgical removal of parathyroid adenoma is not safe. 相似文献

ABSTRACTPurpose: To report two unique cases of spontaneous uveal effusion syndrome (UES) from the same family.Methods: The patients included father (54 years old) and a daughter (23 years old). The father presented 7 years ago with bilateral exudative retinal detachment, nanophthalmic eyes (axial length 16.11 mm and 16.43 mm in right and left eyes, respectively) with hypermetropia, and a thickened sclera on MRI. The daughter presented with left eye peripheral exudative annular retinal detachment with bilateral nanophthalmos (axial length 20.7 mm and 20.33 mm, in right and left eyes, respectively), with MRI showing ciliochoroidal detachment, suprachoroidal effusion and mild thickening of the sclera in left eye.Results: The father underwent subscleral sclerectomy in the left eye that led to resolution of submacular fluid. Scleral biopsy confirmed the deposition of glycosaminoglycans on Alcian blue stain. The daughter was kept under observation, because of absence of any macular subretinal fluid, and counselled about the familial nature of the disease and possible need for future intervention.Conclusion: This is the first report of familial nanophthalmos presenting with spontaneous UES. 相似文献

The present communication reports the comparison of in vivo antioxidant, antimelanoma and antimutagenic activities of Eruca sativa seed oil and its bio principles (allyl isothiocyanate, phenylethyl isothiocyanate and sulphoraphane) against B16F10 melanoma cells induced in C57BL/6 mice model. Among the various treatments considered for the study, isothiocyanates combination (allyl isothiocyanate, phenylethyl isothiocyanate and sulphoraphane; 1:1:1; 10 µM) exhibited optimum antioxidant activity, 51.95±1.14 µM glutathione per mg protein compared to seed oil 25.91±1.26 µM. Lipid peroxidation value was 9.97±1.72 µM malondialdehyde per mg wet weight for isothiocyanates combination against seed oil, 28.45±1.87 µM and rendered significant protection against oxidative stress induced by melanoma in liver tissue. Isothiocyanates combination significantly suppressed various parameters, such as tumor growth, isothiocyanates combination by 36.36% while the seed oil by 15.23%; tumor weight, isothiocyanates combination by 45.9% and seed oil by 19.6%; tumor volume, isothiocyanates combination by 41.7% while the seed oil by 32.3%, measured for antimelanoma activity at a concentration of 10 µM. Isothiocyanates combination has been found to be more cytotoxic bioagent against B16F10 melanoma cells induced in C57BL/6 mice compared to naturally occurring Eruca sativa seed oil. 相似文献
