Objective
The aim of this study was to compare the polimerization ability of three different light-curing units (quartz tungsten halogen, light-emitting diodes and plasma arc) and their exposure modes (high-intensity and soft-start) by determination of microhardness, water sorption and solubility, and diametral tensile strength of 5 dual-curing resin cements.Material and methods
A total of 720 disc-shaped samples (1 mm height and 5 mm diameter) were prepared from different dual-curing resin cements (Duolink, Nexus, Bifix-QM, Panavia F and RelyX Unicem). Photoactivation was performed by using quartz tungsten halogen (high-power and soft-up modes), light-emitting diode (standard and exponential modes) and plasma arc (normal and ramp-curing modes) curing units through ceramic discs. Then the samples (n=8/per group) were stored dry in the dark at 37ºC for 24 h. The Vickers hardness test was performed on the resin cement layer with a microhardness tester (Shimadzu HMV). For sorption and solubility tests; the samples were stored in a desiccator at 37ºC and weighed to a constant mass. The samples were weighed both before and after being immersed in deionized water for different periods of time (24 h and 7 days) and being desiccated. The diametral tensile strength of the samples was tested in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed statistically by nonparametric Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests at 5% significance level.Results
Resin cement and light-curing unit had significant effects (p<0.05) on microhardness, diametral tensile strength, water solubility and sorption. However, no significant differences (p>0.05) were obtained with different modes of LCUs.Conclusion
The study indicates that polymerization of resin cements with different light-curing units may result in various polymer structures, and consequently different mechanical and physical properties. 相似文献4.

Effects of silicon coating on bond strength of two different titanium ceramic to titanium. 总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the effect of silicon coating (SiO2) by magnetron sputtering on bond strength of two different titanium ceramics to titanium. METHODS: Sixty cast titanium specimens were prepared following the protocol ISO 9693. Titanium specimens were divided into two test and control groups with 15 specimens in each. Test groups were silicon coated by the magnetron sputtering technique. Two titanium ceramics (Triceram and Duceratin) were applied on both test (coated) and control (uncoated) metal specimens. The titanium-ceramic specimens were subjected to a three point flexural test. The groups were compared for their bond strength. SEM and SEM/EDS analyses were performed on the delaminated titanium surfaces to ascertain bond failure. RESULTS: The mean bond strength of Ti-Duceratin, Ti-Triceram, Si-coated Ti-Duceratin and Si-coated Ti-Triceram were 17.22+/-2.43, 23.31+/-3.18, 23.21+/-3.81 and 24.91+/-3.70 MPa, respectively. While the improvement in bond strength was 30% for Duceratin, it was statistically insignificant for Triceram. An adhesive mode of failure was observed in the Duceratin control group. In the silicoated Duceratin specimen, the bonded ceramic boundaries were wider but less than in the silicoated Triceram specimen. In the coated Triceram specimen, the ceramic retained areas were frequent and the failure mode was generally cohesive. SIGNIFICANCE: Silicon coating was significantly effective in both preventing titanium oxide layer formation and in improving bond strength for Duceratin. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has a high metastatic potential due to its hematogen and vascular features. It metastasizes frequently to the lungs, the bones, the liver, the lymph nodes and the brain. Metastasis of RCC to the head and neck region is quite rare. Testicular tumours have many different manifestations, including hydrocele formation. Herein, we present an extremely rare case of testicular mesothelioma presenting with left hydrocele, but without risk factors. Left radical inguinal orchidectomy was performed, and pathological examination revealed a malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis of the testis. No infiltration of the spermatic cord was evident, and upon advanced radiological evaluation, no sign of metastasis was detected. Follow-up was still ongoing in our urology outpatient clinic at the time of this report. Although hydrocele is a simple and common condition that is easy to diagnose, a detailed investigation should be performed. Thus, when encountering a patient with hydrocele, the clinician should evaluate the possibility of the presence of an underlying testicular/paratesticular tumour, including a rare one such as mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis. 相似文献

Objective:To compare two groups of subjects at the peak of the pubertal growth period treated with the Functional Mandibular Advancer (FMA; Forestadent, Pforzheim, Germany) appliance using either single-step or stepwise mandibular advancement.Materials and Methods:This study was conducted on 34 Class II division 1 malocclusion subjects at or just before the peak phase of pubertal growth as assessed by hand-wrist radiographs. Subjects were assigned to two groups of mandibular advancement, using matched randomization. Both groups were treated with the FMA. While the mandible was advanced to a super Class I molar relation in the single-step advancement group (SSG), patients in the stepwise mandibular advancement group (SWG) had a 4-mm initial bite advancement and subsequent 2-mm advancements at bimonthly intervals. The material consisted of lateral cephalograms taken before treatment and after 10 months of FMA treatment. Data were analyzed by means paired t-tests and an independent t-test.Results:There were statistically significant changes in SNB, Pg horizontal, ANB, Co-Gn, and Co-Go measurements in both groups (P < .001); these changes were greater in the SWG with the exception of Co-Go (P < .05). While significant differences were found in U1-SN, IMPA, L6 horizontal, overjet, and overbite appraisals in each group (P < .001), these changes were comparable (P > .05).Conclusion:Because of the higher rates of sagittal mandibular skeletal changes, FMA using stepwise advancement of the mandible might be the appliance of choice for treating Class II division 1 malocclusions. 相似文献
