Following preliminary experiments to determine suitable methods for studying mycoplasma survival, suspensions of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (four strains), Mycoplasma synoviae (two strains) or Mycoplasma iowae (two strains) were seeded onto replicate samples of cotton, rubber, straw, shavings, timber, food, feathers and human hair. The organisms were also seeded onto human skin, ear and nasal mucosa. All samples were cultured for viability after 4, 8, 12 and 24 h, and then daily up to 6 days. The identity of recovered mycoplasmas was confirmed by indirect immunofluorescence. All three Mycoplasma species survived for the longest time on feathers with M. gallisepticum surviving between 2 and 4 days and M. synoviae 2 to 3 days. The type strain of M. iowae remained viable for 5 days on feathers, while the field strain was still viable at the end of the 6-day experiment. This strain also survived for at least 6 days on human hair and several other materials. M. gallisepticum survived on human hair up to 3 days and one recent field isolate also survived in the nose for 24 h. Survival times of the organisms were generally less on other materials although M. gallisepticum could be isolated from straw, cotton and rubber samples after 2 days.  相似文献

(-)Tabersonine and (-)-11-methoxytabersonine were isolated from fruits of Melodinus reticulatus. Stems and leaves contain uvaol and eight alkaloids, five of which were previously described: (-)tabersonine, venalstonidine, kopsinine, venalstonine and its 3-oxoderivative. The study aims to perform a comparative assessment of two types of burn wound treatment. To do the assessment, patients with partial thickness burn wounds with total body surface area <40% were simple randomised to treat with nanocrystalline silver nylon wound dressing or silver sulfadiazine cream. Efficacy of treatment, use of analgesics, number of wound dressing change, wound infection and final hospitalisation cost were evaluated. The study showed silver nylon wound dressing significantly reduced length of hospital stay, analgesic use, wound infection and inflammation compared with silver sulfadiazine.  相似文献

For choosing an anaesthetic agent for a particular purpose, the different properties has been notified such as the convenience for use, safety for the fish, humans and the environment, effectiveness, physiological disturbances and its cost. Invariably, in any study with clove oil, it has been regarded as an effective and acceptable alternative to other anaesthetics. The aim of the present study was to investigate effects of two anaesthetic regimes, MS-222 and eugenol, on plasma biochemical parameters in Barbus sharpeyi. B. sharpeyi fingerlings (mean weight, 5?g?±?1; mean length, 6?cm?±?1) were exposed to MS-222 (100?ppm) and eugenol (40?ppm) for induction of anaesthesia. Blood samples were taken to verify the effects of these anaesthetics on plasma biochemical parameters may use as an indicator of stress at time 0 (designated for each tank at the time of exposure to anaesthetic agent), 0.5, 1, 2 and 24?h after exposure by caudal severance. Plasma biochemical parameters concentrations were not significantly affected in B. sharpeyi (p?<?0.05). These results were expected because the trials were conducted in short-term exposures. Ion balance appears to be altered only in long-term stressing condition. Based on the results of this study, eugenol appears to be a safe anesthetic for use in B. sharpeyi.  相似文献

Aims

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) with number of metabolic syndrome (Mets) components on the personnel working in Shahroud University of Medical Sciences.

Methods

This cross-sectional study was conducted on 167 personnel aged 30–60 years old. ATP III criteria were used to diagnose patients with MetS. Oxidative stress indicators were measured. The data was analyzed via one-way ANOVA, and Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients.

Results

The result showed that TAC had a significant positive correlation with HDL and a significant negative correlation with abdominal obesity. In addition, there was a significant positive association between the level of MDA and age, BMI, abdominal obesity, diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, and LDL; however, it had a negative significant correlation with HDL.

Conclusions

The measurement of TAC and MDA biomarkers can increase the early diagnosis of patients at risk of developing Mets.  相似文献

Objectives

Urinary tract infection caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains is one of the most important infections in the world. UPEC encode widespread virulence factors closely related with pathogenesis of the bacteria. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the presence of different phenotypic virulence markers in UPEC isolates and determine their correlation with antibiotic resistance pattern.

Methods

UPEC isolates from patients with different clinical symptoms of UTI were collected and screened for biofilm and hemolysin production, mannose resistant, and mannose sensitive hemagglutination (MRHA and MSHA, respectively). In addition, antimicrobial resistance pattern and ESBL-producing isolates were recorded.

Results

Of the 156 UPEC isolates, biofilm and hemolysin formation was seen in 133 (85.3%) and 53 (34%) isolates, respectively. Moreover, 98 (62.8%) and 58 (37.2%) isolates showed the presence of Types 1 fimbriae (MSHA) and P fimbriae (MRHA), respectively. Our results also showed a relationship between biofilm formation in UPEC isolated from acute cystitis patients and recurrent UTI cases. Occurrence of UTI was dramatically correlated with the patients'' profiles. We observed that the difference in antimicrobial susceptibilities of the biofilm and nonbiofilm former isolates was statistically significant. The UPEC isolates showed the highest resistance to ampicillin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, and cotrimoxazole. Moreover, 26.9% of isolates were ESBL producers.

Conclusion

This study indicated that there is a relationship between the phenotypic virulence traits of the UPEC isolates, patients'' profiles, and antibiotic resistance. Detection of the phenotypic virulence factors could help to improve understanding of pathogenesis of UPEC isolates and better medical intervention.  相似文献

Background:

The most common reason of respiratory distress in the newborn is transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN). There are some reports saying that TTN is associated with increased frequencies of wheezing attacks.

Objectives:

The aims of this study were to determine the risk factors associated with TTN and to determine the association between TTN and the development of wheezing syndromes in early life.

Materials and Methods:

In a historical cohort study, we recorded the characteristics of 70 infants born at the Shohadaye Kargar Hospital in Yazd between March 2005 and March 2009 and who were hospitalized because of TTN in the neonatal intensive-care unit. We called their parents at least four years after the infants were discharged from the hospital and asked about any wheezing attacks. Seventy other infants with no health problems during the newborn period were included in the study as the control group.

Results:

The rate of wheezing attacks in newborns with TTN was more than patients with no TTN diagnosis (P = 0.014). TTN was found to be an independent risk factor for later wheezing attacks (relative risk [RR] = 2.8).

Conclusions:

The most obvious finding of this study was that TTN was an independent risk factor for wheezing attacks. So long-term medical care is suggested for these patients who may be at risk, because TTN may not be as transient as has been previously thought.  相似文献
