This report describes a new species of aspidoderid nematode, Ansiruptodera scapteromi sp. nov., the second species to be reported in the genus Ansiruptodera Skrjabin and Shikhobalova, 1947. The A. scapteromi sp. nov. is the first species of the genus to be recorded from a rodent host. The new species is clearly different from the only other species, A. ansirupta (Proença, 1937) Skrjabin and Shikhobalova, 1947, in that it possesses short lateral alae that terminate before the midbody; a smaller cephalic extremity; a shorter esophagus, pharynx, tail, and tail appendage; a smaller sucker; and longer spicules. The two species also differ in the numbers and arrangements of caudal papillae. A. scapteromi appears to be a parasite of capture and the water rats seem to have been infected from Edentata in Uruguay.  相似文献

Mongolia is a large landlocked country in Central Asia and has one of the highest per capita livestock ratios in the world. During 2017, reported foot‐and‐mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks in Mongolia increased considerably, prompting widespread disease control measures. This study estimates the socio‐economic impact of FMD and subsequent control measures on Mongolian herders. The analysis encompassed quantification of the impact on subsistence farmers’ livelihoods and food security and estimation of the national‐level gross losses due to reaction and expenditure during 2017. Data were collected from 112 herders across eight provinces that reported disease. Seventy of these herders had cases of FMD, while 42 did not have FMD in their animals but were within quarantine zones. Overall, 86/112 herders reported not drinking milk for a period of time and 38/112 reduced their meat consumption. Furthermore, 55 herders (49.1%) had to borrow money to buy food, medicines and/or pay bills or bank loans. Among herders with FMD cases, the median attack rate was 31.7%, 3.8% and 0.59% in cattle, sheep and goats, respectively, with important differences across provinces. Herders with clinical cases before the winter had higher odds of reporting a reduction in their meat consumption. National‐level gross losses due to FMD in 2017 were estimated using government data. The estimate of gross economic loss was 18.4 billion Mongolian‐tugriks (US$7.35 million) which equates to approximately 0.65% of the Mongolian GDP. The FMD outbreaks combined with current control measures have negatively impacted herders’ livelihoods (including herders with and without cases of FMD) which are likely to reduce stakeholder advocacy. Possible strategies that could be employed to ameliorate the negative effects of the current control policy were identified. The findings and approach are relevant to other FMD endemic regions aiming to control the disease.  相似文献

Biodegradable dextran hydrogels were synthesized by crosslinking dextran (T-70) with epichlorohydrin (ECH) for the in vitro colon-specific delivery of salmon calcitonin (sCT). Crosslinking reaction was performed in 2.8 M NaOH solution both in the presence and absence of ethanol at 10 and 23 degrees C. Biodegradation kinetics of dextran hydrogels were studied and, in the presence of 0.7 IU ml-1 dextranase, dextran discs lost 71.0% and 56.5% of their dry weight within 80 h at pH 5.5 and 7.0, respectively. sCT was derivatized with the fluorescamine (FSM) at borate buffer (pH 9.0) and the quantitative determinations were performed using spectrofluorimetric method (lambdaex: 390 nm, lambdaem: 475 nm). In vitro release studies for the hydrogels prepared in the presence of ethanol were carried out in simulated gastrointestinal fluids. Results indicated that 84.9% of the loaded-sCT was released for 17 h and dextran hydrogel prepared in the presence of ethanol may be a good delivery device for the colon-specific delivery of other peptide-type drugs as well as sCT.  相似文献

Randomized controlled trials comparing valproate (as a sole, or as an adjunctive compound) to placebo for patients with schizophrenia or schizophrenia-like disorders were summarized in a metaanalysis. It was possible to include only five trials (n = 379) examining valproate as add-on to antipsychotics in this review. Some of the single studies showed inconsistent beneficial effects on some aspects of response, but no overall superiority of valproate augmentation at study endpoints was shown.  相似文献

Most of the neuroimaging studies that have shown visual category-specific activations or categorization effects have been based on a subtractive approach. In the present study, we investigated, by means of EEG, not only the net result of the categorization but also the dynamics of the process. Subjects had to perform a target detection task throughout an image set of distractors belonging to six categories: letters, geometrical figures, faces, tools, structured textures and Asiatic characters. Multivariate analyses were performed on the responses to the non-target stimuli according to their category. Categorical neural responses were only obtained on P2 latencies and N2 amplitudes. This result suggests that there are no differences in the first stage of the implicit categorization of the distractors (visual analysis and proximal stimulus representation elaboration from 100 to 220 ms) and that differences appear between 220 and 280 ms (matching to structural representations). Over-learned stimuli (e.g. letters) elicited the shortest P2 latency, contrasting with unknown categories (e.g. Asiatic characters) that revealed the longest P2 latencies and flattened N2 waves. Categorical differences indicate that the more a subject knows about an object, the less cognitive resources are used. In conclusion, our results suggest that a reduction in neural activity could reflect an improved accuracy in cognitive and cortical processing.  相似文献

A derivative ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometric method for the determination of piroxicam in piroxicam--beta-cyclodextrin tablets was developed. Phosphate buffer (pH 7.8, 0.1 M) and ethanol were used as a solvent system throughout the study. In this study, determination of piroxicam was conducted by using first order derivative amplitudes at 261.4 nm (n=4). Standards for the calibration graph ranging from 2.40 to 20.0 microg/ml were prepared from working standard. The proposed method is accurate with 99.70%+/-0.50 recovery value and precise with coefficient of variation (CV) of 1.29. The results were compared with those obtained using a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) procedure. A reversed-phase C(18) column with aqueous phosphate buffer:methanol, 60:40, v/v, mobile phase was used. UV detector was set at 254 nm. Calibration solutions used in HPLC were ranging from 5 to 20 microg/ml. Results obtained in HPLC were comparable to those obtained by derivative UV spectrophotometric method.  相似文献

The P23T mutant of human gammaD-crystallin (HGD) is associated with cataract. We have previously investigated the solution properties of this mutant, as well as those of the closely related P23V and P23S mutants, and shown that although mutations at site 23 of HGD do not produce a significant structural change in the protein, they nevertheless profoundly alter the solubility of the protein. Remarkably, the solubility of the mutants decreases with increasing temperature, in sharp contrast to the behavior of the native protein. This inverted solubility corresponds to a strong increase in the binding energy with temperature. Here we have investigated the liquid-liquid coexistence curve and the diffusivity of the P23V mutant and find that these solution properties are unaffected by the mutation. This means that the chemical potentials in the solution phase are essentially unaltered. The apparent discrepancy between the interaction energies in the solution phase, as compared with the solid phase, is explicable in terms of highly anisotropic interprotein interactions, which are averaged out in the solution phase but are fully engaged in the solid phase.  相似文献

No specific treatment exists for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who fail to respond to conventional immunosuppressive and immunomodulating modalities. Furthermore, no method is available for regeneration of existing defect in the central nervous system (CNS). The ultimate goals of MS treatment, similarly to other autoimmune diseases, are twofold: first, to eliminate self-reactive lymphocytes and to prevent de novo development of self-reactivity by induction of self-tolerance. Second, attempting regeneration and repair of existing damage. In the case of MS, there is a need to stop the ongoing process of inflammation against the CNS by self-reactive lymphocytes thus facilitating spontaneous re-myelinization while in parallel attempt to recover existing neurological deficits caused by the autoimmune process resulting in demyelinization. Cell therapy stands out as the most rationale approach for neurological regeneration. In the absence of clinically applicable approaches involving the use of embryonic stem cells, we are investigating the feasibility and efficacy of enriched autologous mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) injected intrathecally and intravenously to induce in situ immunomodulation and neuroprotection and possibly facilitate repair of the CNS in patients with MS and other neurodegenerative disorders. Our preclinical results suggest that bone marrow cells may provide a source of stem cells with a potential for migration into inflamed CNS and differentiate into cells expressing neuronal and glial cell markers. Based on the preclinical data, we are currently evaluating the safety of a similar therapeutic approach in a small group of patients with MS and other neurodegenerative diseases.  相似文献

One hundred ninety patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were treated with recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA) 2.0 +/- 0.8 hours after the onset of symptoms. Eighty-seven patients were enrolled via mobile intensive care units and 103 through the emergency ward. Patients who were enrolled via the mobile intensive care units were randomized to immediate, prehospital treatment initiation, or to delayed, in-hospital treatment initiation. All 190 patients except 2 underwent delayed coronary angiography and, when indicated, angioplasty at 72 hours after enrollment. Patients treated within 2 hours and those treated 2 to 4 hours after symptom onset had similar preservation of left ventricular function, and similar prevalence of congestive heart failure at discharge. Patients treated within 2 hours of symptom onset had significantly lower short- (0.0 vs 6.3%, p = 0.01) and long-term (1.0 vs 9.5%, p = 0.03) mortality. Prehospital initiation of rt-PA appeared to be safe and feasible and resulted in a 40-minute decrease in the time from symptom onset to treatment initiation.  相似文献
