Bullous Pemphigoid in Late Childhood Successfully Treated with Mycophenolate Mofetil as an Adjuvant Therapy

Abstract: Bullous pemphigoid is an acquired subepidermal vesiculobullous disease most commonly seen in the elderly. We report a 16‐year‐old girl with bullous pemphigoid who achieved disease remission with mycophenolate mofetil as an adjuvant therapy.     

Changes in anti-A,anti-B,anti-D and cold agglutinins reactivity resulting from ultraviolet irradiation

Antisera containing anti-A, anti-B, non-specific cold agglutinins and complete and incomplete anti-D were exposed to ultraviolet irradiation. Ultraviolet irradiation for two to three hours was found to be effective for the inactivation of anti-A, anti-B, non-specific cold agglutinins and complete anti-D, whereas incomplete anti-D is more stable.
Electrophoretic patterns of irradiated sera showed the formation of a protein complex.

Résumé

Des serums contenant les isoagglutinines anti-A ou anti-B, des agglutinines froides non spécifiques, de l'anti-D complet ou incomplet, furent traités par rayons ultraviolets. Ce traitement, appliqué durant 2 à 3 heures, suffit pour inactiver l'anti-A, l'anti-B, l'agglutinine froide et l'anti-D complet, tandis que I'anti-D incomplet se montra plus risistant.
L'examen électrophorétique des sérums irradiés mit en évidence la formation d'un complexe protéinique.

Zusammenfassung

Eine zwei- bis dreistundige Ultraviolettbestrahlung reicht aus, urn Anti-A-, Anti-B-Isoagglutinine, komplette Anti-D-Antikörper und unspezifische KälteaggIutinine zu inaktivieren. Inkomplette Anti-D-Antikörper werden durch diese Behandlung nicht inaktiviert. Bei der elektrophoretischen Analyse zeigen die bestrahlten Seren Denaturierungsschäden in Form von Eiweißkomplexen.     

The Distribution of HL-A Antigens and Genes in the Yugoslav Population

The frequency of HL-A antigens and genes was established in a population of 178 unrelated Yugoslav people. The results showed that in spite of a rather limited number of subjects tested, the phenotype distribution and haplotype frequencies were similar to those observed in other Caucasian populations.     

Cold Panniculitis Following Ice Therapy for Cardiac Arrhythmia

Abstract: Ice therapy has long been used as first line treatment of supraventricular tachycardia in neonates. We report a case of cold panniculitis developing in a 12‐day‐old neonate after ice therapy for cardiac arrhythmia. This is the first biopsy‐proved case of cold panniculitis following ice therapy for supraventricular tachycardia in a newborn.
