Fixed drug eruption to Tylenol: report of two cases and review of the literature.

Fixed drug eruptions due to Tylenol (paracetamol, acetaminophen) are very rare. The authors report two additional cases and review the literature.     

Effects of estrus cycle on thermoregulatory responses during exercise in rats

Summary In female rats, rectal temperature (T _re), tail vasomotor response, oxygen uptake , and carbon dioxide production were measured in proestrus and estrus stages during treadmill running at two different speeds at an ambient temperature (T _a) of 24° C. Experiments were performed at 2.00–6.00 a.m., when the difference inT _re was greatest between the two stages;T _re at rest in the estrus stage was 0.54° C higher than in the proestrus stage. In a mild warm environment, thresholdT _re for a rise in tail skin temperature (T _tail) was also higher in the estrus stage than in the proestrus stage. In contrast, no difference was seen in the thresholdT _re and steady stateT _re at the end of exercise between proestrus and estrus stages. These values were higher at the higher work intensity. was also similar between the two stages, except in the second 5 min after the beginning of exercise, when was greater andT _re rose more steeply in the proestrus stage. These data indicate that deep body temperature during exercise is regulated at a certain level depending on the work intensity and is not influenced by the estrus cycle.This study was supported in part by a Grant-in Aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Japan (Grant No. 62480114)     

SF-1/Ad4BP transforms primary long-term cultured bone marrow cells into ACTH-responsive steroidogenic cells

Bone marrow stem cells develop into haematopoietic and mesenchymal lineages, but have not been known to participate in steroidogenic cell production. Steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1), also designated adrenal 4 binding protein (Ad4BP), is an essential orphan nuclear receptor for steroidogenesis as well as for adrenal and gonadal gland development. In the present study, we revealed that the adenovirus-mediated forced expression of SF-1 can transform cultured primary long-term cultured bone marrow cells into steroidogenic cells, showing the de novo synthesis of multiple steroid hormones in response to adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). This finding may provide an initial step in innovative autograft cell transfer therapy for steroid hormone deficiencies.     

Distribution of α2-macroglobulin in normal,inflammatory, and tumor tissues in rats

Distribution of uptake and catabolism of intravenously administered¹²⁵l-labeled rat ₂-macroglobulin(¹²⁵I-₂MG) were examined in normal, inflammatory, and tumor tissues of rats. Clearance of intravenously administered [¹²⁵l]₂MG from the circulation was rapid. Accumulation of this compound into inflammatory tissue was 2–3 times more extensive than in normal tissues. The accumulation into sarcoma tissue was much less. Radioactivity in TCA-PTA precipitates remained fairly constant for the first 12 h in inflammatory tissue and for the first 24 h in sarcoma. These patterns of accumulation were never observed in the normal tissues. As the kidney preferentially accumulated large amounts of [¹²⁵l]₂MG in the nondegraded form and its degradation products, the tissue may play a special role in the metabolism of ₂MG. Rapid clearance from the circulation and relatively small amounts of accumulation in tissues suggest that ₂MG may function as a protease inhibitor, mainly in the circulation rather than in the tissues.
