The aim of this study was to describe clinical features of PBD comorbidity in children with ASD. Forty children with ASD and PBD aged 6–18 years, and 40 age- and sex-matched ASD subjects with no affective episodes were included in the study. Autism Behavior CheckList, Abberant Behavior CheckList, and Young Mania Rating Scale-Parent Version were completed. This study shows that PBD comorbidity in children with ASD involves a highly episodic course, with manic episodes, subsyndromal symptoms and interepisodic periods commonly being described in the manic symptom profile of these children. These findings need to be repeated with large samples, together with controlled studies concerning therapeutic interventions directed toward PBD comorbidity in children with ASD.  相似文献

BackgroundNon-dipper blood pressure is defined by less than a 10% reduction in nighttime blood pressure, and it is associated with cardiovascular disease. Inflammation is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of both chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and non-dipper blood pressure pattern, and both diseases are associated with lower quality of life.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of non-dipper blood pressure pattern in patients with COPD.MethodsA cross-sectional study was carried out with 142 patients with COPD. The Saint George Respiratory Questionnaire and the Euro Quality of Life Scale were used to collect data. To understand arterial stiffness, the augmentation index and pulse wave velocity were measured, and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was subsequently performed. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to understand the relationship between different independent variables and blood pressure pattern. P values lower than 0.05 were considered statistically significant.ResultsAs a result, 76.1% (n = 108) of the patients had non-dipper blood pressure pattern. Non-dipper patients had higher C-reactive protein (OR:1.123; 95% CI:1.016;1.242), augmentation index (OR: 1.057; 95% CI: 1.011;1.105) and Saint George Respiratory Questionnaire total score (OR: 1.021; 95% CI: 1.001;1.042) than dipper patients. Also, as the number of people living at home increased, non-dipper blood pressure pattern was found to be more frequent (OR: 1.339; 95% CI: 1.009;1.777).ConclusionNon-dipper blood pressure pattern may increase cardiovascular risk by triggering inflammation and may adversely affect the prognosis of COPD by lowering the disease-related quality of life. The home-based exercise therapy recommended to the patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a simply applicable and cheap method. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of home-based exercise therapy on pain, mobility, function, disease activity, quality of life, and respiratory functions in patients with AS. Eighty patients diagnosed with AS according to the modified New York criteria were included in the study. Home-based exercise program including range of motion, stretching, strengthening, posture, and respiratory exercises was practically demonstrated by a physiotherapist. A training and exercise manual booklet was given to all patients. Patients following home-based exercise program five times a week at least 30 min per session (exercise group) for 3 months were compared with those exercising less than five times a week (control group). Visual analog scale pain (VASp) values at baseline were significantly higher in the exercise group. The exercise group showed improvements in VASp, tragus–wall distance, morning stiffness, finger–floor distance, modified Schober's test, chest expansion, the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index, the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index, Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (ASQoL), forced expiratory volume in first second, and forced vital capacity at third month. There was significant difference in ASQoL scores between the two groups in favor of the exercise group at third month. Regular home-based exercise therapy should be a part of main therapy in patients with AS. Physicians should recommend that patients with AS do exercise at least five times a week at least 30 min per session.  相似文献

This study was aimed to compare serum urocortin-3 (UCN3) levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and healthy women, and establish what role UCN3 levels play in PCOS. Fifty-two patients with PCOS and 55 healthy women were included in the study, matched for age and body mass index. Fasting blood glucose (FBG), insulin, hs-CRP, UCN3 and free-testosterone levels of the all participants were measured. HOMA-IR was used to calculate the insulin resistance. Circulating UCN3 levels were significantly increased in women with PCOS than in control subjects (54.49?±?5.77 versus 51.28?±?5.86?pmol/l, p?=?0.005). Serum insulin, hs-CRP and HOMA-IR levels were higher in women with PCOS than in control group. UCN3 levels positively correlated with hs-CRP in PCOS group (r?=?0.391, p?=?0.004). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the area under the ROC curves were 0.732 (95% CI 0.634–0.830, p?相似文献

Black tongue is a rare, benign, self‐limiting disorder caused by certain conditions and some medications. We report the first case of a child diagnosed with black tongue associated with ranitidine use. We report our case to emphasize the rare side effect of this frequently used drug. Health care professionals should be aware of the likelihood of ranitidine‐induced black tongue in clinical practice.  相似文献

BackgroundUrticaria is a condition characterized by short-lived swellings of the skin, mouth, and genitalia due to transient leakage of plasma from small blood vessels into the surrounding connective tissues. Although infectious agents such as bacteria and virus causing acute urticaria have been reported previously, very little research has been carried out to understand the relationship between parasitosis and urticaria. This study was designed to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between parasitosis and urticaria.MethodsA total of 49 patients with chronic urticaria and 36 healthy participants were included in the study. Three stool samples were taken from each patient on different days before treating the patients with antiparasitic drugs. Fecal parasite concentrator and native Lugol's method were used for the microscopic examination of the stool samples. Stain samples were prepared by acid fast and modified trichrome stain methods. Serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels of both groups were measured using the nephelometric method.ResultsOur results revealed that protozoa were detected in 38.8% of patients and in 11.1% of healthy participants. There was a fourfold increase in the total serum IgE levels of patients detected with protozoa when compared with patients in whom protozoa were not detected.ConclusionIn patients who have urticaria with undetectable etiology, stool parasite screening would be prudent and identification of parasite-specific IgE in patients with urticaria would be useful in defining the mechanisms by which the parasite causes these lesions.  相似文献
